“Last” seems overly optimistic
Russell Brand has become the last in a long line of BBC presenters to be convicted of sexual assaults. Eight complaints of sexual misconduct were made about Brand during the time he was a Radio 2 DJ courtnewsuk.co.uk/rapist-rus…
Everyone seems to know that the celebrity trying to hide his identity because of allegations of sexual misconduct is a celebrity against whom such allegations have been publicly reported for a long time, and I’m confused.
It seems inevitable that the French presidential run-off will be between a Chinese puppet and a Russian asset

. @Billbrowder has been fighting Putin longer than any of us and is one of the bravest men I know.
In this week’s Lowdown interview he describes how Washington and Moscow have led us into a world of extreme danger – and how we can fight back

If Melania were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her (genuine) humanitarian work, would this (a) be a neat and elegant way of satisfying honour on all sides or (b) enrage Trump still further?
The White House says Melania Trump was involved in arranging a temporary ceasefire in the occupied town of Oleshky to facilitate the evacuation of civilians. Russia's military chief says his forces will halt fire on the Kherson front starting Oct. 27. meduza.io/en/news/2026/10/23…

Don't let russian atrocities and Western normalization become yesterday's news.
My heart still bleeds to think that russia murdered 1yo Anhelina while she was out in the park, sitting in a stroller.
That very same day, Trump said putin was "doing fine" on Ukraine.
Starmer should be forced to pay for this settlement out of his own pocket. Instead, taxpayer’s money will be spent paying for Starmer’s fit of pique. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…
A “breakthrough for Andy Burnham”. Very bad news for British consumers.
NEW: France has dropped its opposition to the UK being included in the EU’s “Made in Europe” legislation as long as the British government aligns with the bloc’s position over tariffs on Chinese EVs.
In a breakthrough for Andy Burnham, Paris on Thursday came round to backing Germany, which has always supported the UK’s calls to be designated European for the purposes of the Industrial Accelerator Act.
The legislation, which is in its draft stage, is designed to protect domestic manufacturing from cheap Chinese competition.
According to a joint Franco-German paper seen by the Guardian, the two countries are now proposing that for the car industry specifically the UK could be included in the "Made in Europe" scheme. @lisaocarroll reports

How much has China subverted human rights?
Well, Navi Pillay just got the Nobel Peace Prize.
The same Navi Pillay who was High Commissioner when I first reported the UN handing names of dissidents to China.
Her response? Bring her a different chair, she was uncomfortable.

Navi Pillay oversaw the communication of names of over 50 dissidents to China. All staffers who directly handed over names - Lidiya Grigoreva, Elena Kontouri-Tapiero, Kurveena Pyneeandy - were promoted. I was fired for speaking up.
Families of the dissidents testified in court.

After the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" vote, the Leader of Haringey Council, which is controlled by the Greens, wrote to various Synagogues in the borough to "reassure" them.
I want to show you Highgate Synagogue's reply. I believe it is worth reading in its entirety.

Bodies of the dead are being endlessly retrieved after Russian genocide strikes on residential buildings. The images of children's limp lifeless bodies are beyond devastating. There is no justice great enough for Russian crimes against Ukraine or for western refusal to stop them.

October 7 2023 is the most documented and intensely filmed crime of mass murder and atrocious sadism in all of human history. Those who celebrated it on that day, October 8 2023 and the following weeks shocked us all.
Today should only be a sorrowful day. Those who march today of all days in London or elsewhere are not only rejecting and mocking the most elementary decency but celebrating the killing, torture and rape of ordinary people. It is hard to think of anything more degenerate and depraved.
The decision to allow this march today is unconscionable, cowardly and despicable @metpoliceuk @ShabanaMahmood, an abuse and degradation of our values of free speech and assembly, particularly after countless demonstrations that have already taken place. I am afraid it reveals a saddening and alarming void at the moral centre of this government and police that should worry us all.
Truly it is an appalling policy. But Labour’s authoritarian instinct to turn political opinions into crimes is a bit worrying too.
EXCLUSIVE: More than a dozen Labour MPs have reported the Green party to Sussex Police and the EHRC over its ‘Zionism is racism’ policy, The Spectator can reveal.
Zack Polanski’s party was plunged deeper into crisis this afternoon after politicians, led by former Home Office minister Mike Tapp, urged police in Brighton to examine whether events at the Green conference may have crossed into criminally actionable racial or religious hatred against Jewish people.
