With the forecast looking pretty grim on Sunday Steve Clarke and myself decided a venue that would provide a few bites was essential so it was an easy decision as we headed off to our Winter banker venue – Stone End Farm in Gloucester. It was particularly important as we had persuaded Josh to accompany us to give him an insight into why we go fishing all the time and also give him an opportunity to put to the test some of the products that he works so hard to produce at the Bait Factory! Josh had only been fishing a couple of times before so we talked him through the process of choosing a swim, preparing the bait and setting up the kit before taking him through the finer art of casting. As the morning progressed he soon learnt how to load the feeder himself and by midday he was baiting and casting for himself and caught Carp-a-plenty. Hybrid feeders loaded with a Tutti Boosted Barrel and the matching expander mix teamed up with a good scattering of pellets resulted in a consistent stream of bites as we ended the day with over 70 Carp between us and a weight of in excess of 200lb. Frequent casting was the key to our success and of course choosing a venue with good Winter form and high stock levels. We fished from dawn until dusk and Josh even mentioned going again so hopefully another angler converted. First session of the year and not a bad start. I wasn’t expecting much due to cold temperatures and the lake producing only a handful of bites in this winter. However, I managed to land this 22lb 11oz common falling to a single grain fake of corn soaked in Betalin! Jack #betalin #hindersbait

When getting a call to say the lake was almost frozen we should have unloaded the car, but without giving up easy we still made the trip, after 4hrs of breaking the ice we could then set up camp, with advice from Liam in the Hinders shop we knew the spots we wanted, solid bags filled with Mini Combo and an XO wafter, a scoop of thick Nut 365 Nutz sludge over the area. After 3 days of breaking the ice it finally froze too thick and we had to leave early, I managed the 1 fish @ 16lb. Rich

Firstly, Happy New Year to all the members of the Community. Yesterday Steve and I had our first session of 2025 at Linear Fisheries Official on the float lake. We did think twice about the trip when the wind was howling as I picked Steve up enroute to the lake but, we didn’t think about postponing it too long and despite the weather we got off to a great start bagging four fish in the first hour. Try as we might we couldn’t sustain that catch rate as the freezing cold rain moved in however, we worked the swim and received 12 bites landing 12 carp all taken on small hybrid feeders loaded with the awesome Nut 365 Expander Mix and fished with a Betalin and Sherbet Boosted Barrel one of our favourite combinations. After working all over Xmas and not being able to get out for a couple of weeks the opportunity came and I went for the night new years eve, waiting for a day off rather than following the weather I didn't realise there was a storm coming in, it wasn't the nicest of nights! A small spread of crumbed and whole 15mm Nut 365 over a 15mm bottom bait soaked in Betalin and dusted with the awesome Betalin B powder. Having the lake to myself again and walking around I could see no signs of fish, I set up central to cover as much water as possible, I lowered my solid bag a rod length off the bank into 10ft of water on a spot I'd caught off before and it produced again, Mini Combo with a few maggots in the bag and a yellow XO wafter. A lovely linear, one of only two fish caught on an extremely cold and tricky session, with lake not producing any fish at all for some time before the trip I was chuffed to bits to come away with this one.
