Our experience with @WeHaveWaysPod tells us the precise opposite of this. At the WW2HQ speaking event I did yesterday in Aylesbury it was the twelve year old at the front who asked the most and best questions.

Looks great; I pre-ordered a copy. If you know you'll order a book and want to support the author, it's helpful to pre-order it rather than wait. This boosts first-week sales, which sends a signal to bookstores that they should carry the title.
Let me reintroduce myself (and introduce my book!) ☺️

For those not already aware - my new book Fighting Retreat: Burma 1942 is coming out next summer with @OspreyBooks. Beyond excited to get this out there, having poured everything into it over the last year. The story of the men in 1942 is of hard fighting against the odds, and that is so often ignored.
Today we're sharing the books we're publishing on our general military list between January and June next year! 📚 Visit the Osprey blog on our website to check out what you have to look forward to! bit.ly/4yzIyWS #Books #History

A couple of titles got my attention. From @HistoryBowsh Fighting Retreat: Burma 1942, eagerly anticipated. And from Barrett Tillman a book on the mining in ‘72 of North Vietnamese waters. I have a book telling the story of the mine sweeping. More of that later.

It’s taken me a while to completely settle after a wonderful if emotionally draining weekend at WHWFest. Thank you to everyone who said such kind words and helped me have such a brilliant time, saw lots of talks, @Npteggchaser @forgottenwarpod t shirt, signed some books, had rides in a Windsor carrier and a Sexton, and signed Ryan’s (from the 303 LHG) ‘hinomaru’ where he is getting historians etc to sign it in homage to the one at the Border regt’s section at the Cumbrian Museum of military life. Thank you to all of the @WeHaveWaysPod IC, @RedFiveModels @LordHardThrashe @almurray @James1940 @tonypastor70 @PaulHic80466580 and everyone else I spent time with. Looking forward to next year where it hopefully won’t be as bittersweet.

Wonderful to see friend of the FWP Charlotte Carty at the @WeHaveWaysPod Cambridge big wing fringe 👇
Wonderful listening to Charlotte Carty on her book 39 Hours: The March that saved India from @chiselbury. Thank you @WHW_CambridgeIC for having her on - such a passionate speaker talking her grandfather’s role commanding the Assam regiment at Kohima in 1944. Brilliant stuff in the British monsoon 👏

Finished writing my latest book today. It’s a bittersweet moment: my wife was pregnant through most of its writing. A month ago today she gave birth prematurely and we welcomed little William into our family. The following morning, after fighting with everything he had, little Will passed away shortly after his first sunrise that we watched through the window together. This has been the worst period of our life by far, and I hope people understand my relative lack of engagement on social media, to messages, emails etc, and for a delay in the production of the next series of @forgottenwarpod I am attending @WeHaveWaysPod Fest next weekend, and am excited to do so; please do feel free to speak to me normally though. Sometimes people don’t know what to say, and that’s ok. I will probably have moments when it hits me how much I would love to have Will there sometime in the future. To make him one of the afflicted, sharing with him the stories of brave men and women and the of the Second World War in general. Will is named after my grandfather, who gave me my love for history, I am heartbroken not to have the chance to share the same passion with my son. Next year I hope to do some fundraising for the wonderful people at our hospital’s midwifery and neonatal teams who did everything they could for Will - I will share details when I know what I’d like to do. We will never forget our little boy, and we hope others will remember him too.

🚨 THIS WEEK TO PATREON AND APPLE SUBS🚨 Okay, we need to talk about the Rhine. 😏🌊 It looks spectacular. Huge Allied resources, amphibious vehicles, airborne support, artillery and an enormous logistical machine behind it. But @HistoryBowsh argues that this is precisely why the Rhine crossing gets overrated. The Irrawaddy was wider, farther away, harder to reach and far more improvised. Sometimes the most impressive military operations are the ones where almost nothing goes according to the textbook. 💥🛶 🎧 Get this early release and ad-free listening on Patreon & Apple #HistoryRage #WWII #MilitaryHistory #Burma #History

🚨 THIS WEEK TO PATREON AND APPLE 🚨 Imagine planning a major wartime river crossing… and then discovering the river doesn't actually have a bridge. 😬🌊 That was just one of the problems facing the Allies on the Irrawaddy in 1945. Unlike the Rhine, there was no convenient infrastructure waiting for them. Boats had to be improvised, equipment cobbled together and troops had to cross a river whose sandbanks and channels could literally shift beneath them. 🛶💥 @HistoryBowsh explains why that matters. 🎧 Get this early release via Apple subscriptions or Patreon #HistoryRage #WWII #MilitaryHistory #Burma #SecondWorldWar

🚨 THIS WEEK FOR SUBSCRIBERS 🚨 Forget everything you think you know about WWII river crossings… 😳🌊 @HistoryBowsh wants the Irrawaddy crossing in Burma in 1945 to get the attention it deserves. A massive river, shifting sandbanks, no bridge, limited equipment, difficult terrain and a determined Japanese force waiting on the other side. Compared with the Rhine, this was a logistical nightmare held together with ingenuity, improvisation and sheer bloody determination. 💥🇮🇳🇬🇧 🎧 Get this early release on Apple subscriptions or Patreon #HistoryRage #WWII #SecondWorldWar #Burma #MilitaryHistory #History

🚨 TOMORROW FOR SUBSCRIBERS🚨 What do you do when you need to cross a massive river… but there isn't a bridge? 🤔🌊 You improvise. 🛶 @HistoryBowsh takes us into the Irrawaddy crossings of 1945, where Allied troops relied on country boats, improvised barges, Bailey bridge sections on pontoons, outboard motors and sheer ingenuity. Then add Japanese machine guns, shifting sandbanks and troops paddling through the darkness towards enemy-held cliffs. This was anything but routine. 💥😳 #WWII #MilitaryHistory #Burma #SecondWorldWar #History

🚨 NEXT WEEK FOR SUBSCRIBERS🚨 Why does everyone remember the Rhine crossing but barely anyone talks about the Irrawaddy? 🤔🌊 @HistoryBowsh makes the case for one of the most extraordinary Allied operations of WWII. Thousands of troops had to cross a huge, shifting river with no bridge, limited equipment and Japanese forces still very much in the fight. Add deception, improvised boats, tanks, artillery, machine guns and a race against the monsoon… and you have one hell of a story. 💥🛶 #WWII #SecondWorldWar #MilitaryHistory #Burma #History #HistoryRage
