Surface grinding of a tungsten carbide ring which, is in-laid to a steel body. Once material thickness is ground flush to the steel body a second process adds a sharp, bevelled edge to finish.

What is Tungsten Carbide?
The material, widely known simply as 'Carbide', is a metal alloy of Tungsten and Carbon.
It has an incredibly high hardness and wear resistance and is notoriously difficult to work with compared to most other metals.
When Tungsten is alloyed with Carbon, it not only makes the metal much easier to work with, it increases the hardness from 7.5 to 9 on the Moh's scale, placing Carbide just behind diamonds in terms of hardness.
The alloy also has a natural scratch-resistant coating, hence its huge popularity in the jewellery industry.
