Johan Santana belongs in the Hall of Fame. I'm here to explain why. The goal is to keep him on the ballot this year and get him in the next 5 years.

Missouri, USA
Joined November 2017
Wins, WPA, WAA, and Ks are all counting stats. Only 23 pitchers in MLB history topped Santana in all 4. 16 are in the HOF Clemens and Brown were in the Mitchell Report Kershaw, Verlander, Greinke, and Scherzer are active, future HOF Shilling is getting in next year

Baseball Prospectus has a version of WAR called Wins Above Replacement Player (WARP). According to WARP, Santana (54.1) provided more value in 12 seasons than David Ortiz (52.5) did in 20.

Santana was so close to playing for the Blue Jays in 2015. If he pitches 1 inning for them, he's on the ballot this year. 2018 ballot: Bonds 123.9 career WAA Clemens 94.2 Schilling 54.0 Mussina 48.9 Manny 35.7
16 Hall eligible pitchers with 30 WAA have not been inducted yet. 5 debuted between 1871-1882 0 debuted between 1883-1963 Tiant debuted in 1964 Reuschel in 1972 7 debuted between 1979-89 Santana debuted in 2000 Oswalt in 2001 The HOF has been unfair to modern pitchers.

Santana had three seasons with 200 or more strikeouts and a WHIP below 1.000. Every other pitcher with three or more seasons like that is either active or in the Hall already.

Only 5 pitchers in MLB history have pitched 2000+ innings while maintaining and ERA+ over 130, a K/9 of at least 8, and a K/BB of at least 3: Randy Johnson Pedro Martinez Clayton Kershaw Max Scherzer Johan Santana

Since the live ball era started in 1920, only 5 pitchers not yet in the Hall of Fame had an ERA+ over 130 and more than 30 WAA. 3 of them, Kershaw, Scherzer, and Sale, are active. 1 of them, Clemens, used steroids. 1 of them, Johan Santana, is a blatant Hall of Fame snub.

In the history of Major League Baseball, only two pitchers (minimum 2000 IP) have topped Santana in ERA+, K/9, and K/W. Those two pitchers are Pedro Martinez and Clayton Kershaw.
Happy birthday to future Hall of Famer Johan Santana!

Santana averaged 165 Ks a year with a 136 ERA+. Since the mound was lowered in 1969, 16 pitchers had 5+ seasons like that: 7 in the HOF 5 active* 2 named in Mitchell Report Curt Shilling and Johan Santana *Those 5 (Kershaw, Verlander, Sale, CC, Scherzer) will get in the HOF

This is a great thread on why McCormick is a slam-dunk Hall of Famer. It also gives Dave Stieb a shout out.

Dave Stieb had 30.7 WAA and led AL pitchers in WAR three straight years (82-84). He was a 7x All Star who lead the league in ERA+ twice, ERA once, and IP twice. #StiebforHOF

This isn't really fair, when paired with that Stieb slider.

Fun fact: Dave Stieb had two no hitters and one perfect game broken up with two outs in the ninth and then finally completed a no hitter on his fourth such attempt. – at Culver City, CA

This is my way of telling you all that you should give @TimHudsonHOF a follow. Hudson has a sneaky good case. It's also likely that him getting in helps Santana.
