And by dehumanizing, in simpler terms it basically fills him with a sense of dread, a pit in his stomach that would make him sick. It’s not so much the nightmares, though the memories do plague him either way. The most sickening to him being either Ryoma or Kokichis deaths.

The reasoning behind Ryoma and Kokichis is quite simple. While he may have not watched Ryoma die, his corpse was still shredded to pieces in the tank, the sight alone would make anyone sick, especially considering the fact he had to investigate what little he could.
