"Civility is the form of socially acceptable behaviour, consisting in essence of a set of constraints slowly developed by social cohabitation. These norms of civility, or practical virtue are valid for all interpersonal communications..." My book (2026) is beyond 1.000 accesses.

The curiosity of boomers.
One of the lovely things about getting older is (or should be) that you develop strange and eclectic tastes. Over time you encounter a lot of obscure books and old films and it makes you into a sort of wizard. But too many people lack the curiosity ever to explore new things.

Genovesi's younger comtemporary, Cesare Beccaria (1738–1794) was part of the Milanese Enlightenment. Beside being a major theoretician of legal reform, Beccaria himself worked on a kind of public economy, similar to the one developed by Genovesi. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.… 3/

To find painterly qualities in a poor neighbourhood.
'Monday Morning.' John Anthony Park made a name for himself through his means of observing and recording the colours and textures of the natural landscape which surrounded him in St Ives and for his impressionistic manner of handling colour and light. Monday was always wash day.

Genovesi's thought was inspired by that of Giambattista Vico, whom he saw as his master. They both attacked Cartesian rationalism, and defended a view of human nature, based on trust and mutual interpersonal relationships. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.… 2/

An impressive Read, thus far! 'An Aristotelian Philosophy of Civility' is not an inexpensive book. While I have a long list ahead of this book to read, due to its hefty lift, I sent it to the front. I am not disappointed. This book is quite timely for our time. Dr, Horcher begins by saying: ' Ours is a historical culture.' Quite right! If you are serious about our Culture, in the West, this is a must read. Each page is a joy to encounter. Well Done Dr Horcher! @HorcherF @DanJTPitt @shawn_whatley @bradleybirzer

I’ll definitely be picking this up when it releases. It’s such a shame that the literature on the Ritter School is so sparse in the English speaking world. Glad to see the gap is finally being filled.

STEP 3. "This is no accident, because, as I will argue, the latter is implicitly grounded in the former. It is because our commonsense metaphysics of human beings and their world gets the first word that traditional moral and political arrangements also get the first word." 3/3

STEP 2. "This approach to metaphysical investigation is, I submit, pretty closely parallel to what a Burke, Oakeshott, or Scruton would say about the conservative approach to evaluating moral and political practices and institutions." 2/

Great to see the book cover of our multi-authored publication project co-edited with @ryan_holston , about the most important school of post-war German moderate conservatism. It comes out early next year.
Cover art for my co-edited volume with @HorcherF on the Ritter School! We introduce their post-war German political thought to English speaking audiences, examining the question of how to pick up the pieces amidst the “ruins” of civilizational collapse.

Zugegeben klingt sehr interessant auch wenn ich den Denker bis zum Tweet noch gar nicht kannte. Was wieder meine Bildungsscham auslöst.

Analytical conservatism - in three steps. STEP 1. "...descriptive metaphysics is the kind represented by Aristotle, by the commonsense philosophy of Thomas Reid, and the ordinary language philosophy of J. L. Austin and Strawson himself." 1/
My essay “The Metaphysical Foundations of Conservatism” appeared in the 2022 anthology Dissident Philosophers, edited by T. Allan Hillman and Tully Borland. I notice that it has been posted at PhilArchive: philarchive.org/archive/EDWT…

Did the German Jesuits like Gundlach, Pesch and Nell-Breuning participate in this tradition in some way?

The answer is apparently yes. AI: "While the German Jesuit tradition (Solidarism) and the Italian tradition (Civil Economy) developed in different regions, they ultimately merged into the modern Vatican framework that Stefano Zamagni operates within today." We need to work on it.

There are as many histories, as participants and eyewitnesses of history. These are parallel, often overlaping universes.
