As I say every year. MLB Draft Lottery should occur the day after Qualifying Offers are announced. Why?
Take the San Francisco Giants as an example. Currently slated to select 15th. 1% chance to land the 1st Pick. If they hypothetically moved into the Top 6, more inclined to sacrifice the 2nd Rounder to sign a player that received a Qualifying Offer.
Or take the Mets. They could be picking anywhere from 1st Overall to 27th. It'd be nice to know your slot prior to giving up a Draft pick for a Free Agent. Especially a mid tier guy. Say a Zac Gallen or Michael King type.
The only reason Bo Bichette would consider opting out of 2-$84M? Absolutely hates playing in New York, and especially for the Mets Franchise.
Smart of Yankees to retain Brian Cashman with an extension. 29 straight winning seasons. 15 AL East Titles. Yankees don't operate from position of strength they did financially in the 1990s. Every GM makes mistakes. Cashman owns his mistakes and evolves. A Hall of Fame GM.
We’re officially in “X Player opened to resigning with current club” season.
Always makes sense for leverage; I did laugh seeing Jazz Chisholm Jr opened to staying with Yankees.
Jazz Chisholm might be the most talented player where still just sucks I’ve ever seen
Pretty sure if you gave his talent to Miguel Cairo he’s Barry Bonds

In this wildcard format the team that wins game 1 has won their series 18 out of 19 times. Regardless of who wins Phillies @ Braves we have enough sample size for MLB/MLBPA to bargain to reduce WC back to one game series instead of 2 out of 3 while also bringing back game 163 as tie breakers. Just my opinion.

MLB needs to implement spending floor eased in over 3-4 seasons with harsher penalties for exceeding the Luxury Tax. Avoid smaller market Clubs acting as clearing houses.

Maybe I'm an Optimist. Don't see players missing games. Owners offer rank and file minimum salary increases, higher minimums for players on 40 Man. MLB Payrolls exceeded $5.3B in '26. Players aren't missing games. Owners have the leverage given 50% of players make less than $1M.
Owners won't get maximum 6 yr Free Agent contracts in CBA. Past few yrs teams willing to go high AAV to avoid longer term on players excluding Juan Soto. Disregard the Luxury Tax implications for shorter term.

Top Reliever Contract currently Josh Hader 5-$95M. Highest AAV Edwin Díaz $23M on paper or roughly $21M on present value factoring in deferred money.
If marketed as a Starter entering his Age 28 season, Adrián Morejón gets over $100M guaranteed and $20M+ in AAV.

A Glove only 2nd Basemen Marcus Semien coming off injury entering his Age 35 season is worth $72M over the next 3 seasons but Los Mets couldn’t go beyond 3 years on the most prolific power hitter in Franchise History entering his Age 31 season.
Pete Alonso played 162 games in back-to-back seasons and finished 11th in the MVP vote.
David Stearns is LOST
