Coaches, I want you to know. I’m very respectful & passive in my approach to recruiting.
I simply want athletes, who meet our recruiting standards, to know that we exist & that they are wanted at Mount St. Joseph University!
It’s their life, their choice and their prerogative.

I had a revealing conversation with a former athlete.
Now 30, successful in business. Attributes much of his success to lessons learned in high school XC and Track.
Here's what he shared:
Me: "What's the biggest lesson you took from running?"
Him: "Resilience. Learning to push through discomfort and self-doubt."
Me: "How has that helped in your career?"
Him: "It's everything. In business, like in running, success comes from consistent effort, not just talent."
Me: "Any other parallels between running and your current life?"
Him: "Goal-setting, time management, teamwork. All crucial in both arenas."
Me: "What do you wish coaches understood better?"
Him: "The long-term impact they have. Your words still echo in my head 12 years later."
Me: "Any advice for current high school athletes?"
Him: "Embrace the process. The real victory is in who you become, not just the races you win."
These conversations remind us of the profound impact we have as coaches. The future of coaching is shaping not just athletes but future leaders.
It's happening in every practice, every race, every interaction.
