When most people picture firefighters, they picture flames. But some of our toughest calls involve no fire at all.
Chemical spills. Gas leaks. Unknown substances at a worksite, on a highway, or in someone’s home.

From 1979 to 2019, the city added 250,000 people and the number of Vancouver firefighters stayed completely flat.

Our members want to build their lives in Vancouver. Many simply can't afford to.
It's getting harder to recruit firefighters to Vancouver, and harder to keep them here. A lot of our workforce lives outside the city, not by choice, but because of cost.
