I’ve been quiet on the subject of Ofsted recently, waiting for details to surface before commenting. So, we can see from TES and The Guardian that details have now emerged about the ‘scorecard’ system set to replace the current inspection framework next September…

They have learned nothing from their own Independent Learning Review. This proposed 'reformed' system proves what Dame Christine Gilbert found - that Ofsted's leadership and management are still 'defensive and complacent'. Must do better.”

It's a nonsense. It's no help for children to write interesting stories or non-fiction. It is overly, misleadingly and mistakenly focussed on sentences and not on themes, characters' dilemmas/motives. And fails to talk of 'story' grammar eg reveal-conceal, story arcs, obstacles.

£600 a year across 6 sites is a “peppercorn rent”: a small amount legally required to create a lease and therefore give rights to tenants. It is usually asked for by the tenant not the landlord, as tenants’ rights are worth far more than £100. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppercor…

Well he wasn't on the beach while the sea was closed leaving people stranded in Kabul, and he wasn't at KGB HQ in Perugia for a Bunga Bunga party, and he wasn't doing I'm a Celebrity...so I guess if he was doing his job on the world stage then it's OK.

New - this is simply remarkable. New data shows 42% of private school kids now get extra time with exams (compared with 26% in state schools). @bphillipsonMP wants to know why. Great story by Kieran Smith and Amy Borrett on.ft.com/3YDsrXY

I've had one to one sessions with a series of Secretaries of State for Education and Education ministers about the power of reading for pleasure and they just shrug and say they're doing it anyway. Balls, Knight, Croaker, Gibb. They don't 'get' it. They ignore the evidence.

- those complaining about it are the multi-millionaires who saw investing in farmland as an excellent tax avoidance measure.

In understand farmers are conspiring to “grind the capital to a halt with their tractors”.
I assume you will want to arrest them and send them to jail for many years to discourage this.
