🇹🇭 #Thailand | @ICJ_Asia calls on #Thai authorities to ensure that any anti-SLAPP law provides effective protection against abusive lawsuits, regardless of whether they are brought through criminal or civil proceedings. At a panel discussion at the Parliament on 27 August, co-hosted by @ICJ_Asia, the Rights and Liberties Protection Department (@PRRLPD) and the House of Representatives’ Committee on Political Development, Mass Communications and Public Participation, speakers examined three legislative proposals to counter #SLAPPs. The ICJ urges the authorities to ensure that any law adopted covers all forms of SLAPPs, enables their early dismissal and provides effective remedies for those targeted. 🔗 Read more: icj.org/thailand-three-draft…

🇹🇭 #Thailand | In August-September, @ICJ_Asia, together with Thailand’s Court of Justice and @OHCHRAsia, and with the support of @EUinThailand, brought 104 judges together in four regional dialogues. The dialogues served as a platform for judges to discuss implementing Thailand’s Anti-Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act in line with international law and standards. Discussions examined the distinct role of courts in: 🔷 preventing torture and enforced disappearance 🔷 ensuring accountability, including through the assessment of evidence, exclusion of coerced confessions and meaningful searches for disappeared persons Learn more: icj.org/thailand-judges-have… #EnforcedDisappearance #Accountability

[Joint Statement] The @ICJ_Asia, together with 14 other civil society organisations, call for the immediate release of Pakistani human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Chattha. Their continued detention, despite the Supreme Court’s order granting bail raises serious concerns for due process and the independence of lawyers. As a State Party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), Pakistan must uphold its international human rights obligations, including protections against arbitrary detention and guarantees of fair trial rights. 🔗 Read the joint statement: icj.org/pakistan-end-the-cyc…
