As the new @IESOGI just appointed by @UN_HRC, I invite you to watch/repost my first video message to the #HumanRights movement. Assuming this role & responsibility is the honor of a lifetime! Follow me here to receive my latest news, reports, & global protection calls 🇺🇳🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️#SOGI
On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the United Nations Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity joined fellow UN and regional human rights
experts in a joint statement emphasizing that the protection of diversity, including sexual and gender minorities, is a cornerstone of democracy and an essential component of the protection of human rights.
The statement highlights the importance of supporting and strengthening
communities working to advance equality, dignity, and inclusion, and reflects on the continuing challenges faced by LGBT persons worldwide.

The UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on
sexual orientation and gender identity, Graeme Reid, is grateful for the many submissions received from all regions, which are indispensable to the preparation of ing the forthcoming a thematic
report on the experiences of lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) women. The report will examine the specific and intersecting forms of violence and
discrimination faced by LBQ women globally and will be presented to the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in June 2026.
Humanitarian systems are designed to protect the most vulnerable. But what happens when some people remain invisible within those systems?
In humanitarian contexts, LGBT individuals often face increased risk of violence, exclusion from aid, and limited access to protection, yet these realities are still not consistently reflected in global responses.
If you work in humanitarian, human rights, policy, or have lived experience, your voice can help shape what comes next: 👇

👉Why is the #IESOGI mandate important?
From tackling laws that criminalize ⚖️to amplifying unheard voices📢 and encouraging States to take action 🤝for everyone, everywhere, the mandate works to turn human rights principles into concrete protections.
🙏I join over 40 UN experts calling for an end to gender-based discrimination and reaffirming the guidance of international bodies such as the CEDAW Committee.
