In April 1976, Israel welcomed John Vorster, apartheid South Africa's prime minister, to its Holocaust memorial. During the Second World War, his own government had interned him as a Nazi sympathizer. He spent much of the visit shopping for weapons. At a banquet in his honour, Israel's prime minister, Yitzhak Rabin, raised a toast to "the ideals shared by Israel and South Africa". In November 1976, the United Nations condemned Israel's collaboration with South Africa, citing the warships Israel was selling. In late 1977, the UN Security Council ordered every country to stop arming South Africa. Israel's arms deals went on for years. In 2007, Ronnie Kasrils, a Jewish South African who spent 27 years in exile fighting apartheid, crossed into the occupied West Bank as South Africa's minister of intelligence. He found certain roads barred to Palestinians and kept for Jewish settlers, and called it a world "infinitely worse than apartheid." On election morning, Trump said American aid to Israel ends this year. He called that money "a bad talking point." Two bills the House passed in July list about $4 billion for Israel. Neither was law on election day His target, he said, was "the four billion dollar payment that everybody knows about". He named Abdul El-Sayed, who ran for the Senate in Michigan and had warned the money might be used "in the form of bombs and tanks".
