In day 1 of #SSCR2023, Prof. Alys Young, Dr. Rebecca Tipton and I, on behalf of the wider @INforMHAA team, discussed how interpreter mediation impacts social work practice with a focus on: 'getting a sense of the person' 'decision making' and 'coordination'.
Great to see @NataliaTanalia & Rebecca Tipton representing the @INforMHAA team at the @efsli #efslimanchester2022 conference, giving an overview of our findings so far to sign language interpreters & researchers from all over the world @NIHRSSCR

Interpreters are not considered in Mental health assessments so harder for them to provide full accounting of what is being said by deaf patients

The training developed through the project will be essential both for initial AMHP and interpreter training as well as for joint CPD giving AMHPs and Interpreters the opportunity to discuss challenges as well as solutions for working together

All the participants over the last 2 days have talked about what an impact this project will make for AMHPs & interpreters in working together, which will subsequently have a positive impact on the effectiveness of Mental Health Act assessments for non-English speakers

Exciting to follow progress by the @INforMHAA project team as they film scenarios from their @NIHRSSCR project. Based on case studies drawn from the project, these filmed scenarios will be used to develop training materials for AMHPs & interpreters. @NIHRresearch #mentalhealth
