Richard Scatchard aka Richard Dunlop, a serial sex offender, moved towns and changed his name.
He went on to meet Kelly Faier's, on a dating app in 2022, before brutally killing her in 2023.

Case law: Family court judgment worth reading carefully: Re CX (No. 2) [2026] EWFC 230 (Mr Justice Garrido).
A six-year-old girl had a positive, supervised relationship with her father after findings of extreme emotional and psychological abuse of her mother. The court has now ordered no direct or indirect contact.
Why? Expert evidence established that the mother has Complex PTSD driven by the abuse. Any ongoing contact arrangements act as repeated triggers that block the stabilisation and trauma-focused treatment she needs. Without recovery, her capacity to parent is at real risk of collapse β with catastrophic consequences for the child who depends on her as primary carer.
The judge did not undervalue the fatherβdaughter bond or the emotional harm the child will experience from the loss of contact. He treated both harms seriously. Faced with two imperfect options, he chose the one that gives the best chance of two healthier parents in the medium and long term, with the possibility of more natural contact later.
This is not βcontact at all costs.β It is a clear application of the welfare checklist and PD12J: contact must be safe for the child and the parent with care. Exceptional, carefully reasoned, and focused on the childβs actual long-term needs.
CX, Re (No. 2) (Domestic abuse: No contact) [2026] EWFC 230: Application by M to stop all contact with child by F, who had previously been found to have subjected the mother to extreme emotional and psychological abuse. Ordered that all contact cease. bailii.org/ew/cases/EWFC/HCJβ¦

Iβve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism.Β But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. Itβs stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. Iβve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnnβs @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to βsmileβ, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say βNo more.β
Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldnβt! And neither should any of us. Itβs unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

This convicted stalker grabbed her hair, almost sat on her and absolutely terrified her before he "asked for a kiss".
The BBC headline frames this assault like a charmingly polite request in a mutual courtship. It's a strange mistake to make.

Diana Parkes CBE and Hetti Barkworth-Nanton CBE, who are co-founders of the Joanna Simpson Foundation, said:
"For far too long, victims have had to reshape their lives to avoid their offenders. Exclusion zones have made victims feel trapped as though they are the ones serving a sentence, with the victim carrying the weight of someone elseβs crime.
"This announcement from the Ministry of Justice is the much-needed change that has long been called for and is a powerful step forward. By placing restrictions on offenders instead, this will now give survivors the freedom they deserve to live, move and heal without fear. It will also be more cost-effective for those monitoring the perpetuators as they will be locked in specific areas rather than having to monitor the exclusion zones where the victims live."
