🚨Excited to share a new preprint (w. @Dschultner, Bertjan Doosje & @david_m_amodio)! We found that race of interaction partner influences impressions we form of people through direct social interactions. psyarxiv.com/3j2rm More info below 🧵

9/10 In sum: race influences impression formation in direct social interaction, especially in people with low internal motivation, and people with high prejudice. This effect is due to racial bias in initial interaction expectancies as well as in the updating process.

10/10 Together, these findings identify a social-interactive mode of prejudice formation that occurs through repeated interaction and is expressed most directly in behavior, complementing existing models of passive forms of prejudice formation and effects on cognition or affect.

⛳ Beyond excited to share our new preprint, in which we show how social biases can be acquired through social learning! (with @B_Lindstroem, @profcikara, and @david_m_amodio). Link: psyarxiv.com/7ec3u 🧵 Key findings below 🧵

Thurs, 11:45 Iris Traast: "Behavioral choice preferences favor minorities despite anti-minority attitudes" @ITraast shows how race affects how we learn about people in direct, reward-based interactions, and how this relates to implicit and explicit racial attitudes

New 2-yr postdoc in my lab at the University of Amsterdam! The project studies how prejudice forms and spreads in both people and machines, using social psych, learning & memory, and computational/AI approaches. Details: bit.ly/3xXUqnr Please RT! DM any questions!

Iris’s work tested the effect of race on social reinforcement learning. Despite anti-Moroccan attitudes, White Dutch participants often chose Moroccan over Dutch players in money sharing game (to avoid appearing biased?) and, in the process, formed preferences for these players
