This week, @bbforpeace participated in the Northwest Climate Summit, organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (Northwest), Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The summit aimed to strengthen governance and accountability in the implementation of climate programmes across the Northwest region.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of three initiatives: the Northwest Climate Academy, the Northwest Climate Fund, and the Northwest Climate Investment Marketplace.
Key discussions during the summit included the following:
Innovation, Technology and Disaster Management: The panel explored recommendations for the curriculum of the Northwest Climate Academy, including opportunities for climate entrepreneurship in the region and training students in quality data generation. Discussions also emphasised the need to extend the benefits of the three initiatives to grassroots communities and outlined strategies for developing bankable projects capable of attracting funding.
Investment Readiness: The panel examined the conditions necessary to attract investment in climate initiatives. It also encouraged states to domesticate and implement relevant national climate policies and international commitments to which Nigeria is a party, as well as establish state-level climate funds to support climate action.
The summit provided a valuable opportunity for BBFORPEACE to engage with strategic stakeholders, exchange insights, and share the impact report of our ‘Northwest Climate Peace Hubs: A Climate Security Approach to Conflict Prevention’ project, implemented in partnership with @UNDPNigeria and the Embassy of Norway in Nigeria.

Who protects young people, and how can we make protection systems work for everyone?
@bbforpeace, in partnership with @cofpnigeria, supported by @ng_youthfund, is convening its second series of online policy dialogues to amplify diverse voices and generate practical recommendations for a policy paper on youth and peacebuilding.
Date: Tuesday, 13 October 2026
Time: 2PM Lagos Time
Venue: Zoom (See the flier for more details)
The dialogue seeks to explore the protection challenges facing young people in Nigeria and identify practical, inclusive, and policy-driven solutions to address them. It will examine how protection systems can better respond to the realities of young people affected by conflict, displacement, marginalisation, gender-based violence, climate-related insecurity and the criminal justice system.
We invite young peacebuilders, policymakers, youth-led organisations, civil society actors, traditional and religious leaders, researchers, and other stakeholders to participate in the second series of its Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Policy Dialogues, focusing on the Protection Pillar.
The dialogue aims to identify gaps in existing protection policies and mechanisms, generate actionable recommendations, strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, and contribute to the development of a policy paper that advances the implementation of Nigeria's National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security.
We believe young people should not only be recognised as individuals requiring protection but also as active partners in shaping the policies and systems that keep them safe.

Peace is not achieved by controlling nations, but mastering our thoughts. - John Harricharan
True peace begins within. It’s not about borders, governments, or power, it’s about the quiet strength of the mind. When we learn to master our thoughts, we free ourselves from anger, fear, and division.
Nations may rise and fall, but the human spirit remains unshaken when it is rooted in inner peace.
As we commence this new week, @bbforpeace would like to remind you that the greatest battles are not fought on the outside, but within.
Every time we choose compassion over conflict, understanding over judgment, and calm over chaos, we contribute to a world where #peace is possible.
Remember: mastering our thoughts is the first step to mastering our world.
Wishing you a #peaceful and productive week ahead.

It looks like the quiet negotiations, the difficult conversations, the people who show up after the cameras leave.
A lot of this work never gets called “peacebuilding.”
Maybe it should.
At @bbforpeace, werecognise the everyday work women are already doing to prevent violence, navigate conflict, and hold communities together.

Women are not merely participants in democracy—they are critical actors in shaping its future. From voter participation and civic engagement to leadership, peacebuilding, decision-making, and political representation, women’s meaningful inclusion is essential to building a more inclusive, peaceful, and accountable democracy.
For BBFORPEACE, this engagement is closely aligned with our commitment to advancing women’s participation, strengthening civic and democratic spaces, promoting peace, and ensuring that women and girls have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to decisions that affect their lives and communities.
As Nigeria looks towards 2027, strategic coordination among civil society organisations, women-led groups, government, political actors, and other stakeholders is vital. We must move beyond conversations about women’s participation to creating the structures, opportunities, and supportive environments that enable women to lead and influence electoral processes at every level.
We are proud to be part of this important conversation and remain committed to working with partners to ensure that women’s voices are not only heard, but valued, represented, and reflected in Nigeria’s democratic future.
