New research from @caldercenter finds that academic recovery efforts can have benefits beyond academics. Summer school improved attendance the following school year, while tutoring was linked to improvements in attendance and discipline.

New @caldercenter paper! w/@edizonross, @CEDR_US, Tom Kane, @ajmceachin, and @emily_r_morton
We know the pandemic hit student test scores hard.
But what happened to attendance, discipline, and grades?
Did ESSER-funded intervention programs affect students on these measures?
So, were these recovery programs more successful than test scores alone would lead us to believe?
Our results suggest maybe so -- and that seems worth paying attention to!
Here is the paper if you want to learn more: caldercenter.org/publication…

New results from "The Nation's Report Card" just dropped and they are pretty bad. I got a sneak peek as a member of IES’s Standing Committee, so I had an extra day or so to ruminate about them. A few thoughts 👇

🚨 Our paper on same-race matching in college is now online at Economics of Education Review! We talk a lot about the benefits of same-race matching in K-12 and higher ed but haven't stopped to ask: Who even has access to same-race matching/how often (and where) does it occur?

📢 #EdWorkingPapers: Meta-analysis suggests tutoring programs lose effectiveness at scale, but design features like high dosage and low student-tutor ratios may help sustain gains.
