Excited to announce our new lab website! 🌐 See familiar faces and new ones, check out the recent science that excites us, all sparkled with a wealth of images. #Immunology #Fungi #Join_us #Community ilievlab.org/
We heard from patients with questions about our recent #NatureMedicine study nature.com/articles/s41591-0… , so here are the key findings for the wider #IBD community:
Our question: Can the gut ecosystem recover by removing a microbial pressure rather than adding something new?
Related Candida strains were shared between mouth and gut- a potential noninvasive testing approach
These findings open a path toward mycobiome-directed approaches and provide foundation for randomized trials, where antifungal therapy remains to be tested as treatment for IBD.

Commensal fungi, a force to be reckoned with:
Highlight of work of @IlievLab showing Kazachstania pintolopesii, a symbiotic fungus in mice, is shielded from host immune system during homeostasis but induces type 2 immunity during mucus fluctuations

Thrilled to share the results of our 8-year-long expedition into the Wild, the city of #NYC , the wild west of #LosAngelesCA , and more—in search of the roots of gut fungal commensalism! 🧵nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Huge credit goes to Yun Liao and @IrisGao in our lab- this has been a LONG journey! Great collaborators Barbara Rehermann @NIDDK, @kurtvandegrift, @christina_cuomo @King_Lab_McGill, many (not on X: Lipman, Artis, Vet services) at @WCM & American Rat Control Inc. ,LA, CA.

and Happy Thanksgiving to all!
3) If you are a tourist exploring NYC attractions #WhatsGoodNYC—sorry, no recommendations for a K.p. tour... (@IlievLab can’t help, but @ThrillistNYC might).
4) If you are a #scientist , check your laboratory mice for K.p (@IlievLab can help)- its alters research outcomes.
