UK petrol was 174.57p a litre in the week of 19 Oct. A year ago it was 134.69p.
Duty and VAT are 47% of that price.
I put every UK pump price since 2018 and the Ofgem price cap for all 14 regions in one PDF and CSV, from official DESNZ and Ofgem data.

25 Nov is the date to watch.
That is when Ofgem sets the energy price cap for 1 Jan to 31 Mar 2027.
Next come 23 Feb and 26 May 2027.
Right now the cap is 26.32p a kWh for power and 7.97p for gas. Any January figure you see before 25 Nov is a forecast, not the cap.

A year ago it was 142.61p.
A 55 litre tank now costs £109.22. Last year it cost £78.44. That is £30.78 more every fill.
It has dipped 3 weeks in a row. But only by 1.46p in total.

The gas standing charge is 29.68p a day. That is about £108 a year, before you use any gas.
The Budget says the government wants it gone. It is a proposal, not a decision yet.
Who could save, who may pay more, and the simple maths are in the reply.
£100 off energy costs lands in January. It goes to homes in council tax bands A to D in England. That is up to 20 million homes. Pay council tax by direct debit? It goes straight to your bank. If not, your council will ask you to apply. Only your council will contact you.

Europe makes most of its own diesel. EU refineries supply about 85% of the diesel used in Europe, the European Commission says. But about a quarter of EU refineries have shut in 20 years. This week Brussels asked refiners to make more. The diesel market may stay tight into 2027.
Keeping the power grid steady cost £50.9m in one day. That was 14 Oct, the top day this month in NESO's own data. Most of it, £47.8m, paid some power plants to switch off and others to switch on, because the wires could not carry the power. That cost ends up in our bills.
North Sea tax is about to dry up. Oil and gas taxes bring in about £5.1bn this year, the OBR says. By 2030/31 that drops to just £0.3bn. Why? The Energy Profits Levy ends in September 2029, and output keeps falling by about 10% a year. What fills that gap?
If the new Sizewell C nuclear plant runs over budget, who pays? Bill payers could pay £9.8bn more while it is built. Investors would put in just £30m more. That is what the Public Accounts Committee found this week. The plant could cost up to £47.7bn. Fair deal?
Fewer people are getting a mortgage to buy a home. Banks approved 53,443 home loans for buyers in September. That is the lowest since December 2023, Bank of England data shows. Remortgages went up. People are hunting for a cheaper deal as rates rise. Is your fix ending soon?
Europe's main gas price hit €100 a megawatt hour on Wednesday. That is the first time since December 2022. Gas plants often set the UK power price at peak times. So this feeds into UK bills and factory costs next. And winter has barely started.
