I saw a disturbing trend today Japanese accounts either lambasting or "apologizing" for bath scenes and the like in anime. So rather then addressing those people directly I'd like to talk about why we use those ourselves. Intimacy is an important part of connecting with a character. The easiest way to achieve this for the audience is to "peak behind the curtain" showing parts of their lives that you would never see normally such as sleeping, getting dressed, taking showers ectra. These connect the characters more strongly to the audience and their lack in some of the more recent works are part of why alot of characters can be quite forgettable in the long run. This goes for male characters as well it's not exclusive to females. Though I have seen none of these accounts talk about that.
