The strangest part of the research? Teaching assistants can do the most good by stepping back at the right moment. But when is the right moment? New research suggests it depends on the task. A closed task, like a maths problem, calls for a different kind of support from an open one, like giving an opinion. That is one of four shifts in our latest blog on 'Getting The Most From Your Teaching Assistants'. Read the blog to find the other three, including the one most often overlooked. Link in bio under “Teaching & Learning blog”. Which of the four do you think your school finds hardest? Tell us below.

Thank you for the detailed review!😊 We couldn’t agree more: if we only ask “does everyone understand?”, we rarely get the full picture. The real value is in finding out what students can actually do and remember.
A FABULOUS book from @MrGoodwin23 - thank you @Inner_Drive for this series. Such useful insights into finding out if they've actually learned what you have taught them. I spent many years in the dark and I wish I'd had this book for inspiration! itsalearningcurve.education/…

Is it ADHD? Autism? Both? You know the student, but you still can’t tell what’s behind what you’re seeing. It’s confusing for a reason. The two overlap, and they can co-occur. Training rarely covers it. Dr Pippa Busch explains what that looks like in a real classroom, in this clip from our flash webinar. Has this left you second-guessing? Tell us below.

You teach the reading strategies. You model them, practise them and revisit them. And still, two students in the same class get very different results. It’s not a reflection of your effort. Strategies only go so far without the background knowledge to apply them. The good news is there’s plenty you can do. Give students more context and background knowledge, and know that strategies alone can only take them so far. For more insight and practical next steps from Daisy Christodoulou, listen to the full podcast. Link in bio🔗
