@WorldStrokeOrg Workshop – Improving Access to EVT in Paraguay 🇵🇾 | June 10–17, 2025
Over one impactful week, WSO joined stroke leaders in Paraguay to improve access to endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and strengthen stroke systems across the country. 👇
📍Hospital de Clínicas, Asunción: Main event with local health authorities. Discussions focused on pathways to implement EVT nationally.
📍IPS Hospital, Asunción: A major Comprehensive Stroke Center. Reviewed EVT criteria & customized stroke pathways with the local team.
📍Hospital de Itauguá: Recently performed its first EVT case! We discussed indications, activation protocols & transfer logistics for thrombectomy.
📍Hospital de Luque: A telestroke-ready Primary Stroke Center ~40 min from Asunción. Focused on acute stroke management & EVT readiness.
🛠️ Practical sessions included:
• EVT workshops
• TCD evaluations of EVT candidates post-transfer
• Case-based discussions with local teams
🤝Finished the week with a collaborative dinner with Paraguay’s stroke leaders to reflect & align on next steps.
A big step forward in advancing stroke care in Paraguay.

Under the @WorldStrokeOrg this Fellowship Program aims to build neurointerventional capacity in underserved regions by offering 1- to 2-year hands-on training at high-volume international centers.
🔍Who can apply?
Physicians with a background in Neurology, Neurosurgery, or Radiology who:
- Live and work in a low- to middle-income country
- Hold valid medical licenses
- Are committed to returning to serve their home country
- Meet all training and documentation requirements
🏥Training institutions will provide exposure to 200+ endovascular cases, including diagnostics and treatment, and must meet WSO training standards.
