The World Culture Festival – Karachi 2026 presents, ‘Rukhsati’ a romantic comedy play from UK, that showcases Love, regret, and the weight of izzat. Rukhsati is a funny, moving and intimate British Pakistani two-hander set during a South Asian wedding in Tooting, London. Nighat and Tariq, former lovers now in their mid-forties, unexpectedly find themselves alone together and revisit the choices, loyalties and expectations that shaped their lives. The play moves between present-day confrontation and memories of youth, using live music and a DJ-led soundscape to unlock nostalgia and collective memory. At its heart are questions of love, marriage, family, identity, belonging and the lives we might have lived. Its cultural world is unmistakably British Pakistani: two people raised in London negotiating inherited Pakistani values, British life, migration, memory and generational change. That specificity is also what makes the story travel. Language: English | Duration: 80 Minutes Date: 15th Nov 2026 | Time: 7:00 PM Venue: Studio 2, Arts Council Karachi Entry is free for all, but registration is mandatory. Free registration at acpkhi.com/events (Link in bio) The World Culture Festival Karachi 2026 runs from 29 October to 22 November 2026. #WorldCultureFestival #ACPKHI #ArtsCouncil #WCFK

Looking foward to talking about the @InsaafiCiC supported Tales of the Iron Lane project at @MertonArtsSpace event organised by @MertonGreens next Tuesday 27 Oct 7.30pm. Vital that we interrogate London's development as a city of #Empire and the legacies of #Colonialism

Britain’s possession of West Indies and India provided “the strength, the support, but especially the capital, the wealth” that allowed Britain to survive its wars dominate international commerce and establish its global commercial and financial leadership tinyurl.com/3t9ck8xe

A report commissioned by the Greater London Authority found that "racial bias" in licensing and policing disproportionately affects black-led music events. The Race Equality in Music Event Licensing (REMEL) report said that black-led events in London were blocked at higher rates than white-led events, and that South Asian-led events also had more restrictions. Music genres such as Afrobeats, hip-hop, drill, R&B and dancehall were also routinely flagged as "high risk". The Metropolitan Police said it would carefully consider the report's findings. #Music #Licensing #London

None of it changes the basic fact: enslavement is a load-bearing wall in Britain’s story. Remove it and the country becomes unexplainable – the wealth of its ports, the reach of its empire, the shape of its economy. tinyurl.com/4rt7x4yp

It was amazing to be part of this.
Shout out to everyone behind the success of this year's Wandle Fortnight. We had a record equalling number of events and activities and gave away nearly twice as much in Wandle Grants. A huge volunteer effort by local people and groups who share a passion for the Wandle

100% agree with these statements as a youth who came through those movements. There were key differences also in terms of those that were in the North and Midlands and Black organising and those in London, and in terms of class, caste, race and gender.
The liberal section of the Asian Youth Movements in their later years have sought to tell a revisionist and defanged version of that history that erases how Black organising was inseparable from Asian organising at the time,

Too many Deaf and Disabled Londoners continue to face unacceptable inequalities in our city, excluded from opportunities many of us take for granted. London's first Disability Action Plan is a major step forward in our mission to bring about real change. london.gov.uk/action-plan-fo…
