Hello, real world
Meet Physical AI Update: robotics news, demos worth watching, and ideas from the community, every two weeks.
First up: @peaq, @GEODNET, and robots with chores to do.

We are in the golden age of frontiers, and we’re very excited to support these frontiers @a16z
For the learners
Physical Intelligence's co-founder put his entire Berkeley course on YouTube: every lecture from this spring, plus the homework code.
"CS 185/285: Deep Reinforcement Learning," Sergey Levine (@svlevine), UC Berkeley, Spring 2026.
Imitation learning, policy gradients, actor-critic, Q-learning, model-based RL, offline RL, exploration, RL for LLMs and multi-task learning - 25 lectures plus 2 guest talks, about 36 hours, free.
Lectures 2 and 3 are learning from human demos, the same idea behind ALOHA and π0. the rest is how a robot keeps getting better after the demos run out.
Figure is hiring an RL Engineer for whole-body control right now, at $150K–$350K. this course is what the "RL" in that title means.
Lectures: youtube.com/watch?v=DD8APgTE…
Homework: github.com/berkeleydeeprlcou…
P.S. lecture 14 is RL with sequences and LLMs, the same toolkit used to train today's reasoning models.
Do you think retailers would spend 0.5% of their revenue on physical AI — the most powerful tool they've ever had?
That's already $125 billion. It's a big pie, and we've got a head start on cutting out a slice.
How big can physical AI in retail get?
Nils from @Auki shares the numbers here, from signed locations to 2027 deployments:
▪️ Auki has already signed over 1,000 locations for @CactusXR
▪️ The project plans to deploy over 1,000 robot store managers in 2027, connected to Cactus and delivered to existing customers
▪️ Retail could spend over $125 billion on physical AI within 5 years
This is what a clear plan looks like: a product and signed locations today, robot deployments planned for 2027 and over $125 billion in retail spending expected within 5 years👀
imho the future looks bright 🦾

officially retiring the crash mattresses
drastically reduced our control parameters and built a much simpler flight controller
much better stability and actual controlled landings with zero broken parts

Tech blogger 神奇阿宇 from Hubei, China, built a working hoverboard.
Electric, with 10 brushless motors pushing over 30kg of thrust each—enough to lift 4 people—and peak current hitting 2,000 amps.
2 STEPX Neo phones as the board's brain. One inside the board reads posture data in real time; the other on his wrist feeds AI voice prompts through his earbuds—"Weight's shifting left!" "Bend your right knee!"
After 10+ days of brutal training and AI-assisted correction, he achieved man-machine sync.

I remember being nominated for The Forttuna Group's Innovator of the year award while I was in New York earlier this year.
Such a full circle moment now seeing my face on the screen at Times Square. This milestone belongs to the whole team at @tashiprotocol, who keep pushing forward daily. Thank you to everyone who has backed us along the way.
Nils recently gave a keynote at the Humanoid Hub conference on our core thesis of the real world web and why we're making environments smarter while everyone else is only focused on the robots.
For yesterday's community update he went through it again. 👇

Tasks in plain language
Working with robots has always been harder than it should be.
The intelligence was hard to access. The hardware was hard to afford.
Today, both change.

Never been to one of our robots & beers events? Here's what you're missing:
- Presentations with lively Q&A
- Robot soccer mayhem
- Networking with robotic manufacturers, academics, creatives, web3, finance, international entrepreneurs looking to found startups in HK
- Beers 🍻
Looks like an average grocery store, but it's actually a robotics data collection and evaluation environment in the @Auki office in Hong Kong. I'm slowly starting to understand why they say robotics is so far ahead here...
