I don't remember my grandfather enough to know what he would think about a lot of things. He died a week after my sixth birthday. From everything I do remember (mostly just vibes and family stories) she's probably correct. If there's any individual living or dead that I wish I could sit down with and just ask questions to indefinitely, it'd probably be him.

My sister @Anne_Hand joined me to talk about "Austrian Again", the book that grew out of her effort to reclaim our family’s Austrian citizenship. We talked about our grandfather, the gaps in the family record, and what it means to reopen a door he chose to close. Link- interestingpeoplepodcast.sub…

My neighbor's 18-month-old grandson is battling an extremely rare cancer. If you can spare it, please consider donating or participating. I don't often post this sort of thing, but they are good people, and no toddler should have to go through anything like this. They are hosting a fundraiser in Natick, MA, that includes a pickleball tournament and silent auction. Info below. "Last summer, doctors discovered a rare and malignant tumor that required immediate surgery. Pathology later confirmed an extraordinarily rare form of sarcoma caused by a genetic fusion seen in only a handful of cases worldwide. Reed has undergone months of aggressive chemotherapy and extended hospital stays and will have many long-term follow-up care needs—likely continuing for several years after chemotherapy ends. His mother, Grace, a NICU nurse, had to leave her job to remain by Reed’s side full-time. All proceeds from the Rally for Reed event will go directly to Reed’s parents, Grace and Kyle, to help with medical expenses, daily living costs, and ensuring Reed receives the long-term care he needs that not covered by insurance." eventbrite.com/e/rally-for-r…

A lot of talk of mental health in this one. Hog incredibly candid about the demons of his teen years.

Appreciate this a lot, Eric. It's somewhere between vanity and passion project. Regardless, I'm really excited to be moving away from purely talking about baseball. Have some really good guests coming on this season. Excited to share.
