This isn’t about a white man “reporting” anything. It’s about how many of you are ignorant of Nigerian law. That is the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) it is illegal to capture one they are a protected species. Sea turtles are fully protected species in Nigeria. Under the Endangered Species (Control of International Trade and Traffic) Act (Decree No. 11 of 1985, as amended in 2016), hunting, capturing, or trading any animal listed in the First Schedule is absolutely prohibited (Section 1(1)). Sea turtles are included in that schedule. The protected sea turtle species in Nigeria are: * Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) * Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) * Olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) * Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) They are also protected under the National Environmental (Protection of Endangered Species in International Trade) Regulations, 2011, which NESREA enforces, and they are listed on CITES Appendix I. NESREA has publicly confirmed that killing, trading, or possessing these turtles is an offence under Nigerian law. Stop treating protected wildlife as food or business. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
