I travel a lot for work spoons is great , always feel ok going in one alone, can order with zero human interaction & they have a vast vegan selection. I did once order at the bar and the rugged Australian barman gave me a look he clearly reserved for vegans 😬😆
I have spent an inordinate amount of time in various Spoons this weekend owing to the awful weather and our awful public transport system. So while I wait for my Korean friend chicken burger here’s some of the under explored reasons why Spoons is so great:
1. They have real Heinz ketchup (ditto Heinz mustard, HP sauce etc). This is impressive when most food trucks and even restaurants etc now use cheaper supermarket-brand versions as Heinz has become so pricey
2. The southern fried chicken strips are better than the chicken selects in McDonald’s (and that’s a high bar)
3. The staff are nice (I’ve always found)
4. The spice bag is elite
5. There’s something for everyone - even Aperol Spritz! (£4.75)
6. The free re-fills on the coffee
7. Often they’re in great heritage buildings
8. The explicit invite on the pump to try before you choose. This is great
Many more but my burger has now arrived
Dig in
Just a reminder, journalism fans, I have a website where you can dig around a treasure chest of drug and crime articles. There's a podcast/interview or two and you can also message me on there.

Scottish mountains intimidate me. So it was with some anxiety that I set of today around the ring of steal. Epic , challenging snd very cold at times but what an incredible route.
Suitably unpleasant conditions for a run up #Bennevis. Unbelievable amount of litter all the way up & the summit was pretty grim, weather & litter wise. Disappointing.

🚨BREAKING: Russia’s special envoy to Vladimir Putin has posted an image depicting the United States & Russia teaming up to defeat Europe.
This comes after the U.S. President gutted the new “Lindsey Graham” Russia Sanctions Act last night.
The C word… I read that it’s estimated approx 1 in 175 people are currently Covid positive

It’s mad that places like this need #litterpicking but there we go. 30 sacks from this 1.5 mile area of the @TPT_National & @BarnsleyCouncil footpaths last autumn , pleased that I only filled two today. Lots of cups from @Starbucks, start printing reg plates @cleanupbritain
#apple day at #wortleyhall walled garden. A wonderful day with a crew of volunteers churning out juice. I bought a few bottles to store and drink over the winter 🍏 🍎

Lethal Weapon (1987) has one of the best character intros in a film, quickly establishing Mel Gibson's Martin Riggs out of control gringo behavior at the outset.
After a rewatch for the first time since the 90s and then viewing Person of Interest, it's clear that Riggs and Reese have similar origin stories.
Caviezel and Gibson played their characters quite differently though: Reese was all about restraint, guilt, and resignation. Riggs went wild-eyed, bonkers, death-by-criminal insane narco cop.
Which is kinda funny since of the two, Gibson said Caviezel was the one with 'space cadet' energy to him.

Turned out our enemies never needed to invade. They just needed to push narratives that we are all broken, the county is not worth fighting for and nothing is good whilst meddling in elections and media. It’s utter genius as an act of war but I am a little bit done with it now
Seeing lots of posts about organised bonfire nights getting cancelled. I’m an advocate for far less fireworks useage but I think this means more fireworks in less organised settings …

And I shoehorned in the importance of #drugchecking for drug market surveillance, communicating risk & overdose prevention, ahead of the exciting announcement from Scotland that the Glasgow drug checking service is opening *next week*!
I’ve seen some things on here but I wasn’t expecting to see footage of divers releasing corpses from a sunken boat and letting them float up to the surface.

1/7: More than 160,000 people climb Ben Nevis each year, and many aren't used to conditions of the hill. We remove hundreds of kilogrammes of litter and clear hundreds of toileting sites every year.
Since Covid, the volume of littering has become much worse in the lower glens.
Feed is full of dark talk of war. So I’m digging for victory, more accurately I’m digging for peace ✌️

This is not bunker prepping. Not three month survivalists. All “Think 72 hours” schemes mean is a bit more readiness until responders can get more help to you. I explain more here bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7m…
