Sherman’s progress has been incredible, and it hasn’t even been 48 hours.
A little routine, lots of sniffing, calm exploration, and time to just be a dog has gone a long way. He’s checking in, asking for affection, showing solid recall, and even loading into his kennel on his own.
I’ve also been taking my time on the road. New sights, smells, steady movement, and structure can be incredibly settling for dogs navigating big life changes.
When you slow things down, dogs show you who they really are.

Today I returned to the Downey Animal Shelter and sat down with Sergeant Vega and the facility manager, Joe. After everything, they agreed to release the German Shepherd they had named Sherman into my care.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who spoke up, shared his story, and showed compassion when it mattered most. Because of that support, Sherman is no longer just a number on a kennel door… he’s finally free.
From this day forward, Sherman gets the life he’s always deserved.
