The guy is standing in his own fire telling you to look at the neighbors. Albania: Jared and Ivanka wanted a luxury resort on a protected island. Around 700 BCE, in the ancient Assyrian city of Assur, someone engraved a really weird looking figure onto the reverse of a clay medical tablet. It stood upright on two legs. It had curved horns, a long neck, a forked serpent-like tongue, what appeared to be a reptilian eye, unusual hands, and a long tail extending down beside its leg. The actual drawing survives on the original tablet, catalogued as BAM 202 and preserved in Berlin. In 2019, Assyriologist Troels Pank Arbøll published his examination of the figure in Le Journal des Médecines Cunéiformes. The engraving measures approximately 6.4 centimetres tall and is an exceptionally rare example of a supernatural entity depicted directly on an ancient medical manuscript. The accompanying cuneiform concerns a condition called bennu, associated with seizures, involuntary movements, disturbed behaviour, and altered mental states. The Assyrians attributed these symptoms to supernatural forces. In this case, bennu was associated with a demon operating under the authority of Sîn, the Mesopotamian moon god. In a Babylonian version of the myth of Nergal and Ereshkigal, Bennu appears as a supernatural gatekeeper stationed at the ninth gate of the underworld. Another ancient Assyrian text, The Underworld Vision of an Assyrian Prince, describes a being called mūtu, a personification of Death associated with Ereshkigal. Its head resembled that of the mušḫuššu, a serpent-dragon, while its hands were human. This being was well established in Mesopotamian religion, having a serpentine head, horns, a forked tongue, an elongated neck, and a body incorporating features of multiple animals. In the ancient diagnostic series Sa-gig, a patient suffering from an affliction associated with Bennu apparently recognizes the force attacking him and cries out, "It is he!" Think about it; they even wrote down what to say! Was this their way of explaining epilepsy or other neurological disorders? Quite possibly. In fact, that's the conventional interpretation, and it's perfectly reasonable. And it brings me to something much more recent. In September 2026, former American intelligence officer and UAP whistleblower David Grusch appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and discussed allegations involving living reptilian entities encountered by American military personnel. Grusch described accounts of large, scaly, reptilian-looking humanoids. SATURN DEVOURING HIS SON THE GOD WHO ATE TOMORROW Inspired by Francisco Goya's Black Paintings, c. 1820–1823 Some monsters destroy their enemies. Others destroy everything they love because they cannot bear the thought of losing it. And then there was Saturn. A god so terrified of his future that he began eating it. According to Greek mythology, the Titan Cronus, later identified with Roman Saturn, received a prophecy that one of his children would overthrow him. Imagine possessing a kingdom, unimaginable power, and a throne that even the gods feared. Then imagine discovering that your greatest enemy had not yet been born. Saturn could conquer kingdoms. He could command obedience. But there was one thing he could never command. Tomorrow. And so, when his children were born, he swallowed them. One by one. Not because they had committed some terrible betrayal. Not because they threatened him with weapons. But because they represented something he could not control. Change. Centuries later, Spanish painter Francisco Goya would transform this ancient mythology into one of the most horrifying images ever painted. Saturn Devouring His Son. Look into those eyes. That is not the expression of a victorious god. It is madness. Desperation. A creature so consumed by fear that he has become the very horror he was trying to escape. Goya painted this nightmare onto the walls of his own home during his later years, alongside thirteen other works now known as the Black Paintings. He left no definitive explanation of its meaning. In The Secret History of the Mongols, written around 1240 CE, we find a wild account concerning Alan Qo'a, a woman whose descendants would eventually include Genghis Khan. After her husband died, Alan Qo'a gave birth to three additional sons. Her two older children questioned how this was possible and suspected another man had fathered them. Her explanation was bizarre. She claimed that a luminous, golden-yellow man had been entering her dwelling at night through the smoke-hole in the roof. The figure reportedly approached her, touched her abdomen, and his light penetrated her body.She described the visitor departing along the rays of the sun or moon, taking on a form resembling a yellow dog. She maintained that her three sons were children of Heaven. One of those children, Bodonchar, would become the legendary ancestor of the Borjigin lineage, from which Genghis Khan emerged. Now consider the obvious parallel with Christianity. In the Gospel of Luke, Mary is told by the angel Gabriel that she will conceive through the Holy Spirit. The power of the Most High will overshadow her, and her child will be called the Son of God. In the Mongolian account, a heavenly being enters a woman's home, his radiance penetrates her body, and she subsequently gives birth to children attributed to Heaven. Both accounts explain extraordinary conception through divine intervention and connect the resulting offspring to exceptional authority. There are important differences. Mary is described as a virgin, while Alan Qo'a was a widow who already had children. The Gospels don't describe a glowing man physically touching Mary. And the Mongolian account was recorded more than a thousand years after the Christian texts. I'm not suggesting one story was necessarily copied from the other. What interests me is why extraordinary conceptions involving heavenly intervention appear in the origin traditions of powerful religious and political lineages. And in this particular case, the Mongolian account contains details that are difficult to overlook. A nocturnal visitor. Entry through the roof. A luminous humanlike figure. Physical contact. Light entering a woman's abdomen. An unexplained conception. A subsequent claim of heavenly ancestry. Read that description without knowing its age or cultural origin. What would you think it was describing? To me, the question isn't whether Genghis Khan was descended from an extraterrestrial. There is no evidence establishing that. The question is whether all these accounts originated entirely as religious explanations for unusual births and political authority, or whether some traditions incorporated descriptions of experiences people genuinely believed had happened. The Mongols preserved a remarkably specific account of a luminous being entering a woman's home and causing conception. Nearly eight centuries later, we still have the text.
