On October 7, terrorists drove some 25 kilometers from the Gaza border into the Mishor HaGefen neighborhood of Ofakim. They went house to house and murdered 33 residents. Three years later, on Channel 12's flagship Friday show, anchor Danny Kushmaro recounted that massacre and then said: "So what. Three years later, Mishor HaGefen gave 65% to the Netanyahu bloc… to the politicians on whose watch this disaster happened." Think about what that means. The people who buried their neighbors, who fought terrorists in their own streets, who still live with the trauma, were held up on national TV as if their vote were a moral failure. Their grief was turned into a talking point against their own ballot. This is not a one-off slip. It has passed through every editorial filter of Israel's most-watched news channel. And it fits a pattern: October 7 used again and again as a political weapon against the government, and now against the very citizens who lived through it. The residents of Ofakim don't owe any anchor in a Tel Aviv studio an explanation for how they vote. They have earned the right to choose their leaders like every other Israeli, and arguably more than most. Israelis deserve journalism, not a campaign disguised as news. When the leading news channel treats the victims of the worst massacre in our history as props in a political argument, the problem is not Ofakim. The problem is the newsroom. Media bias of this kind is a threat to democracy. It's time Channel 12 answered for it.
