If we want law and order back on our streets, we need to back the police.

Our plan: 10,000 more police officers and 50,000 extra prison places.
Targeted patrols in crime hotspots. Live facial recognition to catch wanted criminals. Follow up evidence, including “Find My iPhone” signals.
Crime must have consequences.

I am optimistic because The Conservatives have learnt from our mistakes. We are going the right way.
We are ready to fight for our values. Ready to win the argument. Ready to govern.
Ready to get Britain working again.
Thank you #CPC26.
This is an impressive diagnosis of the country’s problems and a plan to start addressing them from @KemiBadenoch
A government that doesn’t know what it believes will be buffeted by events and achieve little.
Britain has been heading in the wrong direction because governments keep treating symptoms rather than causes - often trying to correct problems they themselves created.
The Right Way is the Conservative answer to this challenge.
Read it here 👇
If Magistrates are to be given more sentencing powers, there will need to be better oversight.
At the moment, the unduly lenient sentencing scheme where soft sentences can be challenged doesn’t apply in magistrates court.
That means that when a sex offender got a £10 fine (a real story from Hertfordshire), nothing could be done to challenge it.
This needs to change.
Magistrates are to be given new powers to jail criminals for up to two years.
As part of Labour plans to combat record Crown Court delays, the Government is proposing to increase magistrates’ sentencing powers beyond the current maximum of 12 months.
They will be raised to 18 months with an option to go further and increase to 24 months in an attempt to keep some of the more serious cases out of the Crown Courts which have a backlog of more than 80,000 cases @AlexJJNorris @sarahsackman @andyburnham @ShabanaMahmood @CMcKinnellMP @AlexDaviesJones @JakeBenRichards @NJ_Timothy @MagsAssoc @TheCriminalBar @thebarcouncil @TheLawSociety @DannyShawNews @PoliceInspForum @JamesDRossiter @Kirsty_Brimelow @metpoliceuk telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…
You cannot rip up the countryside first and ask permission later.
Two cases in Hertfordshire this year of illegal green belt development over Bank Holiday weekends have shown significant gaps in enforcement powers.
The law needs to be changed and police powers are needed to give teeth to planning enforcement.
I’m calling on the Government to introduce powers of arrest, vehicle seizures and a new criminal offence for those who destroy our countryside without permission.

More than four in five offenders convicted over child sexual abuse images avoid prison.
It’s time to crack down on paedophiles.

📉 New national crime figures show Hertfordshire is leading the way when it comes to reducing robbery offences.
Robbery offences fell by 13% in Hertfordshire during 2025/26, making it the largest reduction anywhere in England and Wales. Meanwhile, robbery increased by 10% nationally.
Four Hertfordshire districts and boroughs were also among the top ten areas in the country for reducing robbery, with Watford recording the biggest reduction nationally.
This is encouraging progress and reflects the impact of proactive policing, targeted enforcement and preventative work to tackle crime and keep our communities safe.
There's always more to do, but these results show that the approach being taken in Hertfordshire is delivering positive results for residents. 👏

Dangerous criminals are now not going to jail
Repeat knife & firearms offenders are walking free - including a thug who took a machete to the Notting Hill Carnival - while on bail for 3 previous knife offences
We are not safe with Labour

Yesterday Cabinet ministers were joking about letting criminals out of jail early. Today we learn that the vile thugs who killed PC Andrew Harper are eligible for early release under Labour.
Burnham has already said he doesn’t think rapists and paedophiles should be out early. I sincerely hope that extends to the killers of emergency workers. My heart goes out to PC Harper’s family. There is no justification for this.

💡 Earlier this month, I brought retailers, police and business groups together for Hertfordshire’s 2nd annual Retail Crime Forum.
There has been real progress tackling retail crime over the last year with more offenders brought to justice and stronger partnerships with retailers.
The Forum’s goal was to build on that momentum, with everyone focused on the same goal: turning the tide on retail crime in Hertfordshire.
Combining police enforcement, retailer crime prevention, innovative technology, intelligence sharing and supporting people away from offending, the forum highlighted the importance of working together to tackle this issue.
🎥 Here's a recap of the day.
❓What do you think makes the biggest difference in tackling retail crime?

I've spent recent months meeting with Hertfordshire's Jewish community, hearing first-hand the impact antisemitism is having on people's lives and making the case for greater support.
That's why I welcome this £9 million investment in Hertfordshire policing over the next three years. It will help strengthen the work already underway to protect communities, provide reassurance and make sure people feel safe going about their daily lives.
Everyone should be able to live free from fear because of their faith, and I'll continue working with the Constabulary and community leaders to make sure that happens.

Labour are set to release thousands of rapists and paedophiles from prison early.
These are just some of the stories of the victims living with the consequences ⬇️
Useful to see so visually that a land value tax under consideration by Andy Burnham would largely just be a massive tax raid on Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire and London.

🛍️🤝 We've just finished today's Retail Crime Forum, bringing together retailers, police and partners from across Hertfordshire.
There's been real progress over the last year, with more offenders arrested and charged, but there's still more to do. Today's discussions showed a real commitment to tackling retail crime and making our town centres safer for businesses, staff and shoppers. ✅
