The same applies to the idea that the putter should stay on one fixed plane, or that we should eliminate moving parts. The plane changes naturally during the stroke. Some arm swing, wrist motion or hand action is often an important part of a natural sequence. 2/3

This does not mean anything goes. We still want a functional, repeatable delivery of start line and speed. Elite putters are not all identical. There are similarities, but every player’s stroke has its own signature. Each player finds a pattern that performs. 3/3

One of the most repeated messages in putting is that “the face should stay square to the path.” From the elite player data I have seen, few great putters even have the face and path matching at impact, never mind throughout the stroke. Humans do not putt like robots! 1/3

Aiming the putter square is not a fundamental in putting. Aim is simply a function for starting the ball on line. Having an aim bias isn’t necessarily a negative if it’s consistent and matches a stroke bias. Even when using a line, it’s a start line reference. Aim your stroke!

💯 - Every facet of golf requires timing. Putting included!
“That swing might work when your timing is on, but if it’s off you’re going to have trouble.” No shit? Show me a swing that works when your timing is off.

Blade vs Mallet. Why is this a debate? Firstly, it’s really blades, wide blades, semi-mallets, mid-mallets, full mallets, max MOI. Then it’s higher torque, lower torque, visual alignment, offset, hosel type, total weight, swing weight, face insert / milling, grip size… ⬇️

Secondly, it’s not one-size-fits-all. What works for one golfer won’t necessarily work for another. A putter that performs better for a player on certain types of putts or greens, may be outperformed by a different putter on others. E.g short vs long or slow vs fast. ⬇️

Some golfers may find a certain putter help with short putts but hurt distance control; whilst other putters do the opposite. Finding the perfect putter isn’t easy. It has to perform across different distances, green speeds, and slopes—and trade-offs are inevitable.

The real world is not a “controlled test.”
A controlled test is like hitting 1,000 putts on the same green, from the same distance, with the same ball—then switching only the putter. Now you actually know if the putter made a difference. (Our test) Self-reported data is like asking 1,000 golfers how they putted last weekend—on different greens, in different conditions, with different skill levels and expectations. That tells you how people feel, not what actually performs better. (I think theirs is self reported) One isolates the equipment. The other mixes in everything else. So if you want to know what actually works, you trust controlled testing. If you want to know what people think works, you look at self-reported data.

Which Mallet and which Blade putter? Same neck? Toe hang or face balanced? Green speed? Also which performed better for speed control? How many of the golfers already used a mallet? What was the skill level? Let’s stop blanket statements. Mallets are good for many, not all!
Blade vs Mallet Putters — What the Data Actually Says We analyzed 43,000+ putts using our algorithm and the @PuttView testing system to answer a simple question: Do mallet putters outperform blades? Short answer: Yes. And it’s not particularly close. Here’s what we found 👇 1️⃣ Overall Performance 2.6 stroke advantage for mallets. And it wasn’t just one or two golfers skewing the results. (85%) testers putted better with a mallet.

Legend 👏
A heart-warming story 💙 Allen John is profoundly deaf and has to rely on hearing aids since he was two years old. This week is only his tenth start on the DP World Tour and he made the cut comfortably 👏 During the pre-qualifier for the Joburg Open, Allen hit his first ever hole-in-one and finished T1 to get a chance to tee it up this week 🤯 “It was my first hole-in-one ever, over 20 years as a golfer and I’ve never made a hole-in-one.” “Most of my game is based on feel. So even on contact, I don’t do feedback through the audio especially when it’s windy like today, the hearing aid is like a microphone so I always have to adjust myself. Overall, I think I’ve found a really good way of managing with the feel and to not be reliant on the hearing too much." #JoburgOpen

A lot of people have been sharing this and concluding that PGA Tour Golfers have become worse putters over the last 20 years. I decided to look into it. And there’s a lot more happening under the hood. 🧵
PGA Tour make % 20 years apart: 2005 From 4’-8’ make % 69.87 From 10-15 make % 31.29 From 15-20 make % 19.07 From 20-25 make % 12.76 Over 25’ make % 5.73 2025 From 4’-8’ make % 68.57 From 10-15 make % 30.48 From 15-20 make % 18.92 From 20-25 make % 12.23 Over 25’ make % 5.42 From every distance there has been a decline in make %.

Getting on this trend. Hey @grok remove all other golfers from this image, leaving only the greatest putter of all time!

Controversial opinion: I’m not a fan of AimPoint Express for juniors. Introduce it later if/when green reading needs improvement. Used too early, it can stifle learning key skills, visualisation, and creativity. Be careful chasing quick gains that hinder long-term development.

⚠️ TORQUE WARNING ⚠️ Why do so many golfers grab a low-torque putter (LAB / Sq2Sq / TM ZT) and think, “Wow, this feels great”? Because torque gives kinaesthetic feedback. With less of it, they’re simply less aware of their 💩 stroke — don’t confuse that with having more control!

Precisely!! Low Torque, not Zero Torque! 👏
Low Torque. Superior Feel. A new addition to our range of shaft and neck configurations, OC — Onset Center — is designed to deliver low-torque performance without compromising feel and feedback. Putting Acceleration Thread 🧵 Arguably the most important part of the putting stroke is also the most misunderstood: acceleration. I see it coached poorly far too often. Yes, tools like a metronome can help—but it’s the understanding of the concept that truly matters! 👇

Next: Develop Feel 🎯 Learn feel by practicing on a variety of slopes and green speeds. Alternate between quick & slow putts to train adaptability. Side note: there’s nothing wrong with a little deceleration at impact on a fast putt—& the opposite on a slow putt. This is feel!

Thanks for reading 🙏 Acceleration in the putting stroke is often misunderstood—but when you learn to control force and develop feel, your stroke becomes both functional and adaptable. How do you feel acceleration in your stroke? 👇
