Excited for the publication of our recent work on how pyramidal cells shape the identity of interneurons in the Cortex! Big shout out to @artofbiology and Sherry Jingjing wu! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Updated how pyramidal neurons impact specific interneuron subtypes. Turns out spontaneous activity, Wnt signaling in Parvalbumin Interneurons and integrin-signaling in Somatostatin neurons are the culprits! Also see how optimal transport tracks identity.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Thank you @OliviaGieger for a nice report on our story
The inhibitory cells’ development, diversity and abundance in the cortex is directed in part by pyramidal cells, a new preprint suggests.

Our findings demonstrate how pyramidal neurons guide the development of different interneuron subtypes. Biology never fails to amaze me - a profoundly intricate and adaptive journey culminating in exquisite precision. @GordFishell @artofbiology
Cortical interneurons learn on the job! Speculated this was true a decade ago! @JJSherryWU and @artofbiology finally provide evidence! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Neurogliaform cells are probably the least studied type of interneurons. My dear lab mate @Su_hang_ has spearheaded the study performing in vivo two-photon imaging of these interneurons, capturing them in action during visual stimuli and locomotion.
A big shout out to @Su_hang_ for her amazing work with me and @LeenaAIbrahim , in identifying and studying the role of neurogliaform interneurons in V1 cortex. Come read about how these regulators of cortical function act in different cortical layers! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

The Fishell lab fishelllab.hms.harvard.edu @GordFishell at the Broad Institute @broadinstitute is hiring a computational associate. You will work with scRNAseq, scATACseq, spatial transcriptomics and more to learn about interneuron and developmental neurobiology! Please DM me/RT!
Newly elected #NASmember Gordon Fishell is a neuroscientist and professor of neurobiology at @harvardmed who is recognized for his work on the development and function of cortical inhibition. #neuroscience #neurobiology

Thank you @elaine_sevier for being the best co-author, and to all the nice Northeastern coop students I work with. And thanks for @GordFishell who bought me a cake 🎂😉
I’m very excited that my PhD work is out! Thank you so much to @GordFishell for all of your support and @JJSherryWU for being the best collaborator, both while I was in the lab and after I left. Check out our work here sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Congratulations to my boss 😄 @GordFishell

My PhD work is now on biorxiv! Showing that somatostatin interneuron subtypes form highly specific circuits across layers and cell types.
Check out our new biorxiv paper led by @JJSherryWU and @ekfishy targeting the breadth of cortical somatostatin cells and showing their remarkably selective circuitry. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
