I think Schefter loses a ton of credibility after this report. They did not go from “the Patriots have never been there there, have not gotten close to there” to making Christian Gonzalez the highest-paid CB in NFL history and absolutely destroying Witherspoon’s guarantees — $59M guaranteed for Witherspoon versus $102M for Gonzo — in a matter of hours.
You would think an insider of this stature would have enough connections to properly vet a report before getting on the air and spewing it, only to get absolutely dunked on like 10 hours later.
