The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics shot about 22,000 Polish prisoners in the back of the head, then spent 50 years denying it.
They were officers, police, doctors, lawyers, teachers and professors, captured when the Soviets invaded Poland in 1939.
On March 5, 1940, Stalin and the Politburo signed the order to kill them.
Over the next several weeks, the communist secret police executed them in batches at Katyn Forest and other sites. Many were found with their hands tied behind their backs.
When the Germans uncovered the mass graves in 1943, Moscow claimed the Nazis had done it. The lie held through the war, through Nuremberg, and through four decades of communist rule in Poland, where telling the truth could cost you your career.
In 1990, the communist Soviet Union finally admitted it had committed the mass executions.

Had Kaiserreich died in 2014, it would be a treasured cult classic. Had it died in 2018, its achievements would have been immortal. Had it died in 2023, it would have been influential, but flawed. But Kaiserreich lives to this day. Alas, what can one say?

83 years ago today, German soldiers landed in North America. Almost nobody found out for nearly 40 years.
On October 22, 1943, the U-boat U-537 slipped into a remote bay near the northern tip of Labrador.
Its mission wasn't to fight. It was to steal the weather.
Weather in the North Atlantic moves west to east. Whoever knew what was forming over Canada and Greenland could predict conditions over Europe and the convoy routes days in advance. The Allies had stations all over that region. Germany had almost nothing.
So Siemens built Germany a robot. An automatic weather station that could measure temperature, pressure, wind, and humidity, then radio coded reports back on its own every few hours.
U-537 carried one across the Atlantic, along with a meteorologist named Dr. Kurt Sommermeyer. The crossing was brutal. A storm battered the boat and tore away part of its anti-aircraft armament. But they made it.
A landing party rowed ashore with about ten canisters, each weighing over 200 pounds, and hauled them up the rocky ground while armed lookouts watched the horizon. In about a day, they had the station assembled. A tall antenna mast. Battery canisters. Instruments. They named it "Kurt," after the meteorologist.
Then they disguised it.
They painted the canisters with the words "Canadian Meteor Service." There was no such agency. They were betting that anyone who stumbled across it in that wilderness would assume it belonged to the Canadian government and walk away. They even left empty American cigarette packs lying around.
Then U-537 disappeared back into the Atlantic.
The station only worked for a short time, likely just a couple of weeks, before its transmissions stopped.
U-537 never made it home. A year later, it was sunk with all hands by the American submarine USS Flounder in the Java Sea.
And here's the wild part. Labrador wasn't even part of Canada in 1943. It belonged to Newfoundland, a separate British dominion that didn't join Canada until 1949.
For decades, no one knew Kurt existed.
Then in the late 1970s, a retired Siemens engineer researching Germany's wartime weather stations found records of the mission. He contacted a Canadian military historian. In 1981, they reached the site.
Kurt was still there. Canisters scattered across the rocks. The fake "Canadian Meteor Service" markings still on them.
The only armed German landing in North America during WW2, hidden in plain sight for almost 40 years.
Today you can see it at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

The best story on this is from the early 2000s: when Zimbabwe was falling apart and Mugabe was more hated than ever. Smith, who was still beloved by the nation, offered Mugabe a challenge:
The two would go unarmed into a black township, and
see which one would come out alive, the man who supposedly gave black Zimbabweans their freedom, or the supposed racist
Smith, of course, would have been the one cheered rather than torn to pieces by the mob
Mugabe didn't take him up on the bet
In 1996 the Irish Times visited Ian Smith in Harare and were surprised that he had no bodyguards or guards and the front door to his house was open to everyone. he went into town without any protection, and was said that Black Zimbabweans would stop him to say they were better off under his government.
Mugabe on the other hand never moved without lorries of armed men and armoured cars around him, and his protection kept growing even as the country fell apart. by 2006 inflation was over 1,000% and people were queuing for bread and fuel, yet his government spent US$60k on new sirens for his motorcade. when the zimbabwean media asked what all his security was costing, the president’s office said it was “not for public consumption.”
I’ve always thought this says more about the two regimes than anything.

In 850, a Christian priest named Perfectus was living in Córdoba, the capital of Muslim-ruled Spain.
One day, several Muslims asked him what he thought of Muhammad.
According to St. Eulogius of Córdoba, Perfectus initially refused to answer because he knew that criticizing Islam could cost him his life.
But after the men promised that he could speak freely, he openly criticized Muhammad.
They reported him to the authorities, and Perfectus was arrested.
He was executed in Córdoba that same year.
His death was one of the first in a series of Christian martyrdoms under the emirate.
In his account, Perfectus declared:
“I have cursed and I curse your prophet.”

Here is why the Lindsey stuff matters to the left and they can't understand why no one on the right is shocked.
1) Every knew he was gay and has known for 15 years and they can't fathom how it wasn't a headline on Fox. The idea that conservatives really don't care what you do in your private life being something we meant just can't compute for them
2) The idea someone could be gay and it not be their entire identidy baffles them. It wasn't that Lindsey kept it secret, he just didn't advertise it.
For them if you are gay or trans or a furry or whatever that is supposed to be all you care about and Lindsey just blew that up in their face.
It might be the only great thing he's ever done for the right honestly. Taking everything they say and turing it back on them by showing you don't have to be a flaming homosexual at all times in life. You can like penis and be normal like the world use to

You never see that kind of professionalism with foids.
