What's depressing is that this was a point of view that was being seriously considered when I went to a symposium on bike policy at Austin City Hall a few years ago.
Bike Lanes Are White Lanes seems like a great book. I just ordered one! It’s about the racist impacts of urban planning for bike infrastructure, and how affluent white bike bros turned something seemingly good into a weapon for gentrification and displacement. The author is even a cyclist who supports bike infrastructure.

Who are you taking the state back from?
Just voted REPUBLICAN straight down ballot in Texas. Every race. Every single one. No Democrats. No mercy. We're taking this state back and we're not asking permission. Texas ain't turning blue.

Yes, people who don't plan to have children tend to acquire smaller homes than people who do plan to have children. Why is this a notable finding?
conditional on how long they have been married and on their age living in a widdle biddy home still predicts FAR lower odds of having a baby (these are period rates not cohort: people are most likely to have a baby at 2-5 years into their marriage)

But when Americans actually had lots of kids (the Baby Boom), they lived in much smaller homes than they do today.

The same study says this phenomenon been observed before. 18 yr olds are less likely to have yet abandoned the religion they were raised in. By 25 many will.
Is there a religious reversal among America's youngest adults? New Pew: Youngest adults (18–22) are more religious than those just a few years older (23-26): ✅ Attend services: 41% vs. 27% ✅ Pray daily: 34% vs. 26% ✅ Religion very important: 36% vs. 27% Their attendance even tops the national average (33%).

The New York Times breaking the story on Peltola is the latest example that there is a fundamental difference between the liberal-leaning legacy media and openly partisan right-wing outlets like Fox News, which never do any reporting that harms their team.

Isn't this just because at lot of people who would have gotten married & divorced in the past just don't get married now?
Myth: 1/2 of marriages end in divorce and the “trade up” ethic celebrated by Alex Cooper is the new normal. Reality: divorce is down & most marriages today go the distance. That's because most spouses know casual divorce would devastate them & their kids: emotionally, socially, financially. And... many take that whole “till death do us part” ethic seriously.👇🏽

A few weeks late, I offer my 2¢ on the @nhannahjones schools saga. My own view is that there are reasons to send your kid to a "bad" school even if you don't suffer from liberal guilt. jackcraver.com/how-important…

College became an expectation for white collar work and the absence of a degree began to be viewed as a red flag. It shouldn't be that way, but it is.
The median annual wage for an American employed full-time who doesn't have a college degree is $51,688. The median annual wage for an American employed full-time who has a bachelor's degree or higher is $91,936. Does this fit in with your worldview?

It's not even like that, because spending $450 actually affects an average person. That is money they could have spent on something else but now won't.
What's crazy about Musk's spending on the midterms is that the amount involved is totally trivial relative to his net worth. This is like a normal person sending $150 each to three candidates they like.

It isn't really shocking if you know much about the history of Austin post-Save Our Springs or the chronicle's place in it.
The Austin Chronicle endorses Heyman for district 9 A shocking turn of events to not endorse Zo. 👀

This is a useful reminder that far left populism is not the neat trick to defeat fascism that many of its proponents claim.
📊 Présidentielle 2027 ✅ Le Pen 68% ▪️ Mélenchon 32% La candidate RN l’emporterait dans l’entièreté du pays, y compris en IDF (54%), et jusqu’à 76% en BFC. @OdoxaSondages

Weirdly none of the people screaming at me on here about the value of Muny are invoking civil rights.

If you want Austin's most valuable land taken up by a golf course, fine. But just ponder that the next time you complain about taxes. austinpolitics.net/how-much-…

What is not being made clear is what the cost to taxpayers is, either in direct subsidies or the opportunity cost of not developing.
New: After years of legislative efforts, negotiations between the city and UT, Mayor Watson announces the start of a plan to convey the Muny golf course property to Austin for eventual preservation

Oh wow, good catch. I totally expected gambling ads b/c the company rep told the Planning Commission earlier this year that it was not one of the prohibited uses. So idk if city staff was just mistaken, naive or intentionally misleading Council when pushing for this contract.
City staff told council that the new digital billboards would ban gambling ads BUT @JackCraver has a pic of the first one running a Kalshi sports ad Guess city is getting into the ‘it’s not gambling, it’s predictions!’ game austinpolitics.net/the-digit…

I wrote about how awesome it is to save money by buying a house without off-street parking. In the Philly area, this is possible even in many suburbs, where housing was largely built pre-car: jackcraver.com/a-home-withou…
