I noticed that many founders report monthly SPEND as BURN. This is incorrect and doesn’t depict correct picture of what’s going on in the business - especially if you are generating REVENUE. Here is a a simplistic way to think about it. SPEND - amount of money that leaves your bank account every month. REVENUE- amount of money that’s coming into your bank account monthly - or amortized monthly. BURN - is monthly REVENUE minus monthly SPEND For example, you could be spending $100k a month and getting $15k in revenue then your burn is $85k The distinction is important for several reasons - first, you calculate your RUNWAY using your burn not your spend. Secondly, as you scale your business you are expected to spend more on marketing, HR etc - so your spend will be going up but so hopefully is your revenue. So to make it clear internally and to your investors founders should always report SPEND REVENUE BURN CASH ON HAND RUNWAY IN MONTHS

Great overview for founders on how to run a fundraising process 👇
Dear founders: 👏 run 👏 a 👏 process 👏 If you don’t, you’ll end up w a term sheet deadline wondering if you could’ve gotten better terms / investors / leverage (from more term sheets) It doesn’t have to be a long process, but it should be TIGHT (you can spin up quickly).

Sage advice for pre-seed founders:
Raising pre-seed is really hard in any climate. That's why founders should prepare / study and AVOID COSTLY MISTAKES when interacting with VCs. Here is a thread with mistakes that are MASSIVE RED FLAGS 🚩 with VCs that founders can and should avoid. 👇🧵

Good perspective on how investors think about early-stage valuations
Valuation of startups is such a mystifying concept and certainly something I didn't understand as a founder. What makes one startup "more valuable" than another? Today's tweet thread is about the relationship between valuation and milestones. Read on >>
