Yet another London failure.
I am a member of a group who advises people about what to do and where to go in London.
A young American woman in the group had an appalling experience at the weekend. She went to the theatre to see a musical.
Her friends wanted to go out afterwards but she preferred to go back to the hotel.
She could not get a black cab and did not want to risk a minicab. So she took a rickshaw. You know the type: lit up like Blackpool illuminations and blaring out music.
She thought they were licensed. They are not: the mayor has been talking about that for years but it won’t be in place until 2027.
Anyway, just her and one “not English” guy cycling.
As they came closer to the hotel she said they ended up in a really quiet alley. He stopped and suggested taking her photo using her phone. She refused. She did not want to hand over her phone and did not feel safe. They had quite an argument about it. She said she would just pay and walk the rest of the way.
Then two other men appeared. Now she really was scared and offered the £30 agreed fare cash. The driver (and the two men) insisted that she pay by credit card.
They started to say that she had to pay double if she paid in cash.
At that point, a couple turned the corner and instantly the two men vanished, the driver took the £30 and she was left alone.
If that couple had not turned up I don’t know what would have happened.
She had a photo from inside the rickshaw and is submitting it to the police today but it is not easy to identify the driver.
This is not the first time I have heard of such a scam. One tourist was told the fare came to £200 because it was “a tour” and not a ride to the restaurant. Despite it being no such thing.
London scammers in plain sight.
Someone asked about verbal stunning (swearing) in the police.
It just made me think
“Say ole chap, would you mind putting down the sharp implement and kindly laying on the ground for me?”
Why am I in a weird reality where the Super of TSG is having to quote legislation, and explain its intricacies on X to defend police actions at protests.
My thoughts go out to everyone involved in the A66 RTC.
It always hurts in particular that two cops said goodbye to their family, put on their vests, went out on patrol and never returned.
I was once responsible for something like this.
In the sense I declared it and the Met blew this car up multiple times.
Poor lad attended the front office to report his car stolen and got taken into a side room to explain it was now in pieces. It was his dads new car.
Listen,
If you didn’t do well at A Levels.
There’s 1 I grade on the box,6 S grades, one of which is a domestic and 2 E grades which need attending.

Seems like an apt time to repost this.

I don’t think I could ever be a dog handler.
Simply because everytime I unleashed the GP I would be beckoning “FETCH ME THEIR SOULS”
Wow. They’ve finally noticed the Trafalgar Square barriers.
Twas a funny night when I joked with the workers installing them how long it would take for X to notice and bring them up.
The answer is 6 months.
I was thinking back to one of the funniest moments I’ve had in policing.
It was 03:20 on a well known London retail street, an I graded call came out for a suspects on (Burglary in progress)
We found the door open and knew there were no dogs. So 4 grown men barked at the door.
One thing I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of in the job is bringing the big blue noise.
Fucking love screeching up to a job, sirens blaring, throwing the doors open and sprinting towards utter madness.

Dear Men
England play football today at 5pm
whatever the score is, its a game of football and not life or death
please do not beat or abuse your partner, wife,gf or children based on a football game
please do not smash things in your house
from the public
I see we are back to the restraining topic.
Restraining someone is actually really fucking hard, like one on one and I have to restrain someone, I’m deploying Pava 9/10.
A carer wouldn’t have that option. The effort required would be intense.
