1/4 With thousands of entries like these, the Hexapla Institute's evolving database will:
1 search all Greek + Hebrew lemmas in Hexapla
2 search all apparatuses
3 build a Hebrew-Greek reverse index *at a click*
4 begin to construct relationships between the all the versions

Jonah’s descent into the sea, deliverance from the fish, and mission to Nineveh tell Israel’s story in miniature.
In today's article, James Bejon (@JamesBejon) traces the connections from Judah’s exile to Peter’s mission to the Gentiles.

Your days of weakness are not detours for God, though they may feel like it to you. God is more interested in your walk with him than your productivity.

If you knew how quickly people would forget about you after your death, you would not seek in your life to please anyone but God.

Very grateful that @Psephizo continues to address such issues.
The UK government currently has two kinds of measures in its house (Deut. 25.14)—one for Israel, another for everyone else.

I rather like John Owen’s twofold categorisation of textual errors—those occasioned by infirmity and those occasioned by knavery.

I’m grateful to my friend Solomon Buchi (@solomonbbuchi) for a complimentary copy of his new e-book Become Articulate. Solomon has repeatedly built large platforms online using the power of ideas, language, and video, held together by a commitment to authenticity. This book not only lays out Solomon’s philosophy of communication, but is also immensely practical in its advice. Each chapter ends with exercises which will help readers improve their speaking. I’m very happy to recommend this to be read and digested widely.

It turns out that, in the new heaven and earth, there aren’t multiple trees of life (as I’ve previously thought), nor is there a very big tree of life straddling a river. Rather, Rev. 22.2 should be read as follows.
‘Between the city’s street and the river, one on each side, is the tree of life, producing twelve fruits…’

In case anyone needs a take on 2 Thessalonians 2’s ‘restrainer’ this Monday morning.
P.S. It would be a great if a good historian and Bible scholar published a paper on Herod & Augustus as ‘the king’ & ‘the king of the north’ in Daniel 11.36–45.

Yahweh threatens to turn Israel’s sky to iron and land to bronze (Lev 26:19). What’s that mean?
*Iron isn’t permeable. Rain can’t pass from heaven to earth, nor sun. A permanent gray sky without rain. Always overcast, never showers.
*You can scatter seed on a bronze field, but don’t expect a harvest.
*Israel is a heaven and earth: Stars above and sand below. Rebellious ceases to have, much less be, stars and sand.
*Metal above, metal below: They’re thrust inside a metal box, like the iron furnace of Egypt (Deut 4:20).
*Iron and bronze first appear in Gen 4 as the materials of Tubal-cain. By stuffing Israel into a metal box, Yahweh puts them under the power of the sons of Cain.
*Bronze is more glorious than iron (Dan 2), as heaven is higher than earth. With an iron sky and a bronze earth, Israel has entered the upside-down.
*Oh, and seven Heb words in the curse: an anti-creation.

Some bits and pieces on the book of Revelation for those who might be interested.

I was reading Genesis today and I noticed something I don’t think I’ve noticed before.
Prior to the famous destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins (Genesis 19) God actually rescued those same people, using Abraham to save them and their wives and children in the battle of the kings (Genesis 14).
What are we to make of this?
Perhaps it shows a pattern of God revealing himself to people and being gracious even up until it finally is time to judge. Do not take his kindness or grace as permission to sin or some kind of promise that judgment won’t come.
Indeed, about 150 years after Jonah’s preaching led Ninevah to repentance we had Nahum show up and tell that same city that destruction was now coming.
After the golden days of Solomon the kingdom split under his son’s foolishness.
Get your life right with God.

Alastair Roberts on why we should jettison the “strong female character”:
“Herein lies a tragic failure of imagination that weakens both men and women. Women are measured according to an unfair standard that encourages frustration and resentment, as they are pressed to play to their relative weaknesses; men, on the other hand, are ill-served as their strengths must be either pathologized, stifled, or dissembled in order to make women appear equal or stronger. Kickass princesses are an invitation to young girls to pursue their strength in a zero-sum gender game."
