🚨Hilary Cass has called for an independent inquiry into how Brighton GPs were allowed to prescribe cross-sex hormones to children as young as 12.“There urgently needs to be an investigation of why every system that should have protected children, young people, and indeed young adults has failed,” she told me. The employment tribunal between Dr Sarah Redvers and NHS Sussex has highlighted how regulators and the NHS collectively failed to stop prescribing of puberty blockers and hormones against national guidelines - for years - and how instead the person raising concerns was accused of transphobia and herself investigated. Dr Redvers sat down with me for her only newspaper interview about her treatment in a scandal which, Cass now says, “dwarfs” that of the Tavistock’s GIDS. Me for the Sunday Times… thetimes.com/article/cfde7b4…

The fact that this article is appearing in the @nytimes is, one hopes, a sign that sanity will begin to prevail and that scientific and medical societies with duties to protect patients and/or present data scientifically will quickly follow those who are beginning to do so.

All of the issues raised above by the MHRA have been voiced by concerned clinicians and by those of us who have followed this area of medicine for several years. They're all contained in my original analysis from December, as an example. (ENDS) newstatesman.com/politics/20…

Merry Christmas to all those working in the NHS Many staff in the NHS are grossly underpaid (even on Christmas day👇) but none more so than Resident Doctors who frequently graduate with >£100k debt RT to support them & ask government to pay them ALL fairly #PayRestoration

Why is #ItsAWonderfulLife the best Xmas film? It has a serious theme - a despairing man shown how vital his life has been. It is also about generosity, community & hope. #SuicidePrevention I gave the family a choice tonight & this is what they chose.

The beautiful sound of the Notre Dame ‘Worker’s Choir’ rehearsing. More than 80 engineers, architects, carpenters, crane operators, construction workers… who all worked on the Cathedral’s restoration have formed a choir that will perform inside Notre Dame next week.
