Outside of the insane unfairness on working people, this also creates a cliff edge that would harm low income (but has literally £1 extra income) pensions.
Cos what the British tax system really needs is more cliff edges.

Hey @SkyNews 👋
Arab Israeli here. Allow me to set the record straight: there are no “Palestinian citizens of Israel” and your attempt to erase our identity and belonging in this country is racist, inaccurate and offensive. Can you imagine saying “the Mexican citizens of the United States” simply because one is Latino?
Less than 15% of Arab Israelis identify as Palestinian (and most polls have it closer to 7%). You don’t get to decide what our identity is.
Could Palestinian voters tip Israel's election?
Sky's @adamparsons looks at whether Palestinian citizens of Israel can turn their votes into meaningful political influence in this week's election

Gays literally did this with Obama though. Gay marriage didn't happen because we refused to vote for Democrats until they gave it to us, it happened because we were loyal to them and convinced them that gay marriage was a good thing for them to support.

I’d like to expose the lack of technical expertise behind British online child safety policies, challenge Ofcom’s credibility, and explain why existing parental controls should be prioritised over compulsory identity verification.
To anyone with expertise in online child safety, this is more word soup from another British MP.
I’ve advised the British government on these matters, and I can say with confidence that despite their confident statements, politicians demonstrate a lack of basic technical knowledge.
The same applies to Ofcom.
After multiple meetings with Ofcom and the British Home Office about SMS fraud, I was told the Home Office would write to Ofcom asking it to stop misleading the public about SMS fraud because it was siding with mobile operators instead of the public.
During my final meeting with Ofcom, I asked why it continued to repeat claims I’d already demonstrated were technically false, including through testing that involved every UK mobile network operator.
My experience has left me convinced that Ofcom is causing more harm than good.
The same problem is evident in the debate about online child safety.
Smartphones already have excellent parental controls that millions of parents and schools use to block unsuitable apps, websites and services, restrict content and set time limits.
Yet politicians and Ofcom continue to demand that tech companies redesign their services for children while pushing compulsory identity verification.
They ignore existing parental controls that allow parents to protect their children without forcing everyone else to surrender their privacy and online anonymity.
If child safety was really a top priority, why aren’t they teaching parents how to use these controls?
Journalists should be asking politicians and regulators two simple questions.
Why aren’t you educating parents about the parental controls already built into smartphones, which independent technical experts in child safety and mobile security consider highly effective?
And why are you demanding that social media and other companies make their content safe for children while simultaneously arguing that children should be banned from those same services?
You need to pick one.
Making every adult service safe for every child is technically impossible. Preventing children from accessing unsuitable services is already possible through smartphone parental controls.
Parents can decide what’s appropriate for their own children without forcing an entire country to surrender its privacy and online anonymity.
The relentless push for compulsory identity verification, while ignoring existing parental controls, tells me that protecting children isn’t the real priority.

It’s the meme come to life.
'Is that a really good use of his time?'
'Raising money for a cancer charity?'
The Green Party's @floschechter brands Andy Burnham going on Gogglebox as 'ridiculous'.
The fact we don't get quirky stuff like this anymore is entirely down to the fact that all the companies, like Thorntons, have been told off to foreign companies.
Repeal. We can't just accept a new bad status quo that doesn't fix the issues that it was created to solve.
Logistically crazy to force Cornwall MPs to go to Number 10 north lol
West Dorset MP @EdwardMorelloWD asked the PM about devolution today and he said 'I'm always happy to create more mayors'
'Mr. Speaker, I'm not joking. Yes. I would like to see a fully devolved south west of England.
'I know Cornish members were in Number 10 North this week to discuss a devolution deal. I met Devon members this week who are seeking the same. I will offer the same to Wessex members and let's move quickly to get a fully devolved Wessex and Southwest of England'
The key bit that will be watched: 'let's move quickly'

If you've reached the point in British politics where you're standing with RT regular & Assad defender Broseph Stalin over a deeply racist motion & declaring Shami Chakrabarti & Caroline Lucas to be Zionist traitors, you are mentally unwell & have been radicalised to insanity.
The correct way to get around the problem of the civil service clinging on to the cabinet office is not to abolish the cabinet office, but to abolish "Number 10", merge all the Downing Street stuff into the CO and have the PM taken direct control.
🚨 Darren Jones: officials repeatedly told me I couldn’t act ‘because of the constitution’
The former chief secretary to the PM told PACAC:
- “I would often reply with, ‘The constitution’s unwritten. So if I decide to do something, it changes. Therefore, why can’t I do it?’”
- He tried to “abolish the Cabinet Office three times”
- He was not “allowed to abolish the Cabinet Office”

The Liberal Democrats do not negotiatie with Militant Brussels Sprouts
Just simply isn't true. Our party strategy has a whole bit about working to remove reform from power at any level.
It just so happens that the Green Party has now decided to be institutionally antisemitic and should also be kept from power at a national level as a result.

Our party has zero tolerance for racism.
We welcome the announcement that the Liberal Democrats will not work with the Green Party nationally, and call on local government colleagues across the UK to show the same leadership to marginalise this fringe and extremist party.
The Green Party would be entirely free to vote for a PR bill put forward by a Lab-Lib Government, and I hope they would. But that's a completely irrelevant point to if they get to be in national coalition with us.

I am ruling out our party entering into a national partnership with any party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s.
