We are absolutely bursting with pride today as our James Young High School S2 rugby team were crowned East Region Schools Rugby Champions! 🏆 This journey started back in September 2025 when we learned we would be competing in the East Region Championship. From the very beginning, it was clear this group of young people were something special. They brought together skill, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship in a way that has been incredible to watch. Their performances throughout the competition have been outstanding: 🏉 Round 1 – 240 points scored, only 15 conceded 🏉 Round 2 – 140 points scored, only 25 conceded But what has impressed me most is not just the rugby. It is the way these young people have represented our school—with respect, humility, maturity and pride every single step of the way. Today, all of that hard work paid off as they lifted the East Region title. A phenomenal achievement and one every player, coach, family member and supporter should be immensely proud of. Well done boys—you have been exceptional ambassadors for James Young High School and the entire school community could not be prouder of you. 💜

Wishing all of our senior pupils luck for their exams over the next few weeks. You’ve got this and we’ve got you.

We have had a lovely but emotional time celebrating with S6 as they start their final journey to checking out of JYHS for good. We enjoyed our leavers lunch on Friday and will of course mark the occasion as we always do when exams are over and prom arrives. Here are some snaps from Friday and I’m sure you’ll agree the shirt singing has been taken to a whole new level ! Impressive. #best S6 EVER !

It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas …

AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT ALERT!! Against fierce competition from 52 schools across Scotland, including many private institutions, The James Young High School proudly secured second place in the prestigious Scottish Mathematical Council competition. The event, brings together competing young mathematicians from across the country where each team consists of four pupils, who have to work quickly and strategically to solve very challenging mathematical problems. Our team (Parvana, Matthew, Jonathan and Maeve ) didn't disappoint. Our talented young people impressed judges with their problem-solving skills and determination, earning a well-deserved top spot only narrowly pipped to post by Stewart Melville College. This outstanding achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our pupils and staff. For our amazing young people to stride into the final for the first time confidently facing seasoned competitors such as those from the top performing private schools in Scotland and come second overall will always be a proud moment in our history.  Aspiration and Success are two of our key school values and our young people are inspiring examples of this in action. - Miss Gallagher @WestLothianCour @LoveWestLothian
