Spoke to my beloved ninety-year-old grandfather on the phone earlier. He and his wife are in fantastic health—they go country-western dancing every week—but they’ve lost a lot of friends over the past decade.
“I got to go to the cemetery to talk to someone I know,” he said. 😂

1/ In tomorrow’s fiction workshop, I’m teaching the scene in BLOOD MERIDIAN where Judge Holden sketches the various artifacts he’s found, then destroys the originals. He says his intention is to “expunge them from the memory of man.” This Judge is a judge of (re)presentation.

We’ve watched this episode before. It’s harder when the man in the hot seat genuinely loves the club - unlike those above him - but is struggling to deliver. It can’t continue like this.

Bruno Fernandes thinking Carrick’s tactics tonight weren’t right is one thing, but publicly saying it after that performance is a remarkable lack of self awareness. What a mess.

The Beatles - Nowhere Man (live in Munich, 1966). From the albums Rubber Soul and Yesterday and Today (N. America), a single was released in N. America in February 1966, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Have always loved the melody/harmonies on this!

The most dismal this humble hack has witnessed Utd in the flesh is the 2-0 loss at Olympiakos under Moyes: that tonight runs it close…
