In honor of legendary journalist John Baer, the Pennsylvania Legislative Correspondents Association has renamed its summer journalism internship program. It's now the John Baer Legislative Reporting Internship, where student journalists get to work for 12 weeks every summer in the Capitol alongside the professional reporting corps that covers it daily. It's a paid internship, supported by donations and volunteerism. You can support future interns in honor of John, who spent many years helping to fundraise for the program one former intern called "an experience you can brag about, and I certainly have." Here is where you can donate: pacapitolreporters.org/how-t…

BREAKING: A significant moment for retired teachers in Pennsylvania, as the state budget will include a cost-of-living adjustment for pensions of nearly 60,000 public workers who retired before Act 9 was passed in 2001. They have not received an upgrade for 25 years. @fox43

NEWS FROM DGS (please don't shoot the messenger!): The East Wing escalator project will be moving forward with building of the partition walls. Starting 7/9 the escalator will be out of service.
Quite the subdued unveiling for the new East Wing elevator this week. Maybe @PAGenServices is having regrets.

I just spotted Kylie Kelce — host of the popular “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, wife of former Eagle’s center Jason Kelce, and PA native — exit @GovernorShapiro’s office in the state Capitol. Perhaps for a podcast interview? 👀

There are a shocking number of incumbent PA Senators facing a potential primary this year. Dems facing primary challengers: Art Haywood (SD-04), Anthony Williams (SD-08), Lisa Boscola (SD-18), Marty Flynn (SD-22), Wayne Fontana (SD-42). GOPers facing primary challengers: Lisa Baker (SD-20), Pat Stefano (SD-32), Camera Bartolotta (SD-46), Christ Gebhard (SD-48). That is 9 of the 25 incumbents (no retirements on the senate side this year in the Keystone State) facing a challenger this May as it stands.
By my count, there are 30 state legislative incumbents facing a primary this year, per DoS data as of ~7:30 p.m . This could change due to new additions or petition challenges; and how many are serious is a separate q still. But that's the state of play.
