🚨New publication @Res_Pol
If you apply quantitative text analysis to legislative text data, you might be interested in my new article "Mind the context! The role of theoretical concepts for analyzing legislative text data"
🔓Open Access: doi.org/10.1177/205316802412…
So happy to see #ParlLawSpeech out there after years of scraping, cleaning, validating... have a look at our website parllawspeech.org and keep us posted if you use the data (free access via @gesis_org here: doi.org/10.7802/2824).
🚨 #Data alert 📣 We just released #ParlLawSpeech – full texts of more than 40k bills, 28k laws, and 3 mio. parliamentary speeches from 7 countries (AT, CZ, DE, DK, ES, HR, HU) and the EU! If you study democracy with #Text-As-Data / #NLP methods, this is for you! A short 🧵 (1/3)

Replying to @JanSchwalbach
@JanSchwalbach assesses the role of theoretical concepts for analysing legislative text data and makes some recommendations for the theoretical approach to quantitative textual analyses of parliamentary documents.

I hope that these considerations will help some legislative text researchers and spare you some tedious re-conceptualization that has often cost me a great deal of time and energy.
And for all of you who are thinking: “Kind of interesting, but where is the new ParlSpeech data?” (looking at @marius_saeltzer @Ben_Guinaudeau @fghjorth ... 😉) Just be patient a little longer - it's coming very soon! They just won't be called ParlSpeech...

In our view @X doesn’t comply with the DSA in key transparency areas. It misleads users, fails to provide adequate ad repository and blocks access to data for researchers. It’s the first time we issue preliminary findings under the Digital Services Act. 👇 europa.eu/!CGPVCV

📢 How does protest location affect the likelihood of politicians’ engagement?
Using quantitative text analysis, @Schuermann_L @JanSchwalbach & @NoamHimmelrath examine geospatial dynamics of MP responses to #Covid19 protests in multilevel systems

It’s @europsa time 🎉
Looking forward to presenting joint work with @dasalgon on gov-opp dynamics in parliamentary speeches in Latin America (today 3pm)
Earlier today (1pm), @lukas_hetzer
presents joint work with @so_proksch & @ChRauh
& @Miklos__Sebok on bill focus of parliamentary speeches in European democracies.
While very much supporting the #EPSAbyTrain team, it’s gonna be #EPSAonFoot this year for me.
Send me a message or just say hi if you want to go for a coffee!
Very happy to see our article "Location matters! Geospatial dynamics of MP responses to Covid-19 protests in multilevel systems" out in @EJPRjournal: doi.org/10.1111/1475-6765.12…
Thanks for the great teamwork @Schuermann_L & @NoamHimmelrath. See Lennart's thread for more details👇

First publication @LSQjournal!
@ste_mueller and I use a transformer-based machine learning model to analyze over 870,000 tweets and parliamentary questions. Focusing on Irish legislators, we examine the impact of landlord status on housing policy issue emphasis and positions.
🚨New publication in SSCR
Are you collecting/analyzing/archiving digital trace data and are you interested in data quality (you should be😉)? We might have something for you: doi.org/10.1177/089443932412…
Third, we identify gaps with respect to different data types and data quality dimensions within the existing frameworks which need to be filled. And fourth, we provide a detailed literature overview for the intrinsic and extrinsic perspectives on data quality.
This is co-authored work with great GESIS (and Ex-GESIS) colleagues: @JeSs_DaIk @leonsentient @indiiigosky @LukasBirkenmai1 @tobgummer @HenningSilber Bernd Weiß @kwelle Clemens Lechner
