📖 What Lies Beneath | Memorial Hall
Every building on post has a story. Welcome to What Lies Beneath, a series exploring the history behind the places that define life at VMI.
🏛️ The Building
Originally known as Jackson Memorial Hall, the building was renamed Memorial Hall in 2020. Today, it is home to the VMI Museum, where nearly two centuries of Institute history are preserved and shared.
📜 The Story
Step inside Memorial Hall and you'll find artifacts, uniforms, weapons, photographs, and personal stories that trace VMI's history from its founding in 1839 through the present day. Every display helps tell the story of the cadets, alumni, and traditions that have shaped the Institute.
👀 Did You Know?
Many of the museum's artifacts have been donated by generations of alumni and their families, creating a collection that continues to grow as VMI history is made. Every item—from a cadet's uniform to a handwritten letter—helps preserve the legacy of No Ordinary College for future generations.

Behind the Balance: Henry Berling ’27 — Keydet Football 🏈
For Henry Berling ’27, football has been part of his life since he was 3 years old. At VMI, the game has brought more than the opportunity to compete — it’s helped him build lasting friendships, push through an injury and learn the importance of finishing what he starts.
“I’m a big believer that if you start it, you’ve got to finish it.”
