My time away from Twitter was glorious. Annnnnd now I’m back. 😑

The Thanksgiving game last year was one of the worst officiated games in NFL history. Packers got 2 free TDs. One a 4th down where the WR didn’t come close to catching the ball & the broadcast / officiating analyst all agreed. Another where Green Bay false started on 4th down but they gave MLF a phantom timeout somehow lmao. Not gonna apologize for a couple of ticky tack roughing the passers. Karma is a bitch!
Matt LaFleur was asked if the refs made the right call on the controversial timeout 😂

Man I can’t imagine what that’s like
A loss is one thing. You lose because the other team was better. But the officials were HUGELY influential in the game with a slew of obviously bad calls leading to Lions points. That’s annoying.

All this is true and yet I’m most concerned that Jamo still can’t catch a ball with his hands. Always body catching and it shows up in biggest moments— and again today. Good WR doesn’t have to jump way up for that ball in back of the end zone— just reaches up and taps the toes.
Season stays on track but man It sure feels like they got away with one… -Botched the middle 8 with multiple fumbles -Goff got away with multiple dropped INT's -GB fail to punish Campbell ultra aggressive 4th down -So many questionable penalties Hey, we're on to Minnesota #OnePride

A head-turning new "Michigan First" ad from @AbdulElSayed - he names some issue he agrees with MAGA voters on, then plays a supercut of Fox News hosts/Tucker praising him or bashing Mike Rogers. semafor.com/article/10/23/20…

Had the pleasure of moderating the @deteconomicclub discussion w/ @MikeRogersForMI & @AbdulElSayed for #MISen. Great forum w/ actual policy answers w/o attacks on one another. 28 media outlets covered it — including 7 international. I actually did an post-interview for Estonia!

Fascinating session at the @deteconomicclub with the #MISen candidates in their 1-on-1s with @JasonColthorp. Neither has mentioned their opp by name. getting deep into policy. Answers even found agreement in places: eg, some tariffs are good & we have a reading crisis in schools

UPDATE: Talked to Sheriff Wickersham who said he didn’t change his endorsement, he’s decided to “co-endorse” the candidates in the 10th. Not sure I’ve ever seen that.

Have seen lots of reaction to the ESPN series on Nick Saban. A lot of history, reported then and subsequently (wrote a book on this, in fact), has been forgotten: Saban left MSU in 1999 for two reasons, both tied to then-President Peter McPherson. McPherson had welched on a $150,000 (not $100,000) raise committed to Saban. The stock market in the late '90s boomed and McPherson did not believe he could sell that raise to the MSU Board of Trustees. Saban then was making less than Tom Izzo. That violation of pure financial principle set the stage for Saban at least listening to another offer, even though he and Terry through their coaching stops had always most loved East Lansing, had wanted to return there, and most definitely wanted to stay in November, 1999. Another factor was McPherson's indifference to Saban's coaching. Even though the president had not been to a college football game between his college days and his arrival as MSU president, he "didn't believe Saban was a good second-half coach." True appraisal. What might have been considered by the president, even if he had been on firm ground -- and he certainly wasn't -- is that in 1998 the Spartans had only 71 players on scholarship within a roster's 85-man limit. That was due to attrition inherited from George Perles' NCAA probation sentence. Small wonder some second-half leads in 1998 had washed away. By 1999, Saban had a full scholarship roster, and a 10-2 record. But the tensions and intolerances had grown too severe, and Saban was at least open to LSU's offer. Even after Terry visited Baton Rouge and told him it was a "diamond in the rough" they were going to stick in East Lansing. A long night of talking and not sleeping preceded a 5:30 a.m. phone call from McPherson who, in Saban's view, was "belligerent" and insisted Saban wasn't going to put MSU over a barrel. The Sabans decided at that moment to leave for Baton Rouge.

After a decorated 24-year run at ESPN, Nicole Noren resigned in protest. She couldn’t go along with the network’s all-out embrace of gambling. For the first time publicly, in @CJR, Noren shares the deeply personal reasons behind her decision. cjr.org/the-interview/nicole…
