This is an astonishing policy failure in managing chips crucial to national security and our economic future -- because the administration knew what was going on and did nothing.
The story keeps getting crazier. To recap everything that has been reported so far:
- The US intelligence community discovered that Jensen Huang, the CEO of the largest company in the world, was sleeping with Alice Huang, a Chinese spy and an executive at Megaspeed. (FT)
- Multiple independent investigations have concluded that Megaspeed is likely a Chinese cutout, which helps Chinese companies access AI chips or circumvent export controls. (NYT and Bloomberg)
- The US intelligence community also concluded that Alice Huang’s goal was to convince Jensen to lobby the U.S. government to loosen export controls on advanced AI chips. (NYT)
- The intelligence community relayed this information to “a small group of top US government officials” earlier this year. (FT)
- Over the last year, Jensen Huang has repeatedly lobbied the U.S. government to loosen export controls on advanced chips. @BISgov has done so, not only by permitting the export of H200 chips to China, but also not enforcing export controls that would have required a license for exports of the most advanced Blackwell chips to Megaspeed and Southeast Asia.
- Although @CommerceGov leadership was presumably briefed on this information by the U.S. intelligence community, @BISgov has taken no actions to tighten controls on Megaspeed or Southeast Asia.
- Megaspeed remains a preferred cloud partner of Nvidia, and continues to receive Nvidia Blackwell chips despite employing a Chinese spy who reportedly is romantically engaged with the CEO of Nvidia.
- Tens of billions of dollars worth of AI chips have been exported to Southeast Asia this year alone, and Malaysia and Singapore are now two of the four largest importers of AI chips in the world.
What is going on here??? We need answers. The question of who gets the most advanced AI chips in the world is literally the defining strategic question of our time. And not only does it seem like the MSS may be directly influencing the debate on export controls in the United States, but also @CommerceGov is refusing to listen to the warnings of the IC on this issue. What is a POSSIBLE good explanation for why Megaspeed is still receiving chips? Why is there not a license requirement for AI chip shipments to all of Southeast Asia? This is beyond strange at this point.
The fallout from this story will be massive. Obviously, the motivations underpinning Nvidia’s policy views opposing export controls must now all be questioned. But also, how did @BISgov sit on this information and has still taken no actions? We need answers.

Peter Navarro said something quite revealing on CNBC today about BMW's factory in South Carolina: "That doesn't work for America. It's bad for our economics, it's bad for our national security."
This piqued my interest. I grew up very close to that BMW facility -- the company's largest in the world -- and I watched it transform my state and region with more than $13 billion invested in since 1992, 11,000 jobs onsite at an 8 million square foot campus, $10+ billion in exports in 2023 alone, etc. One study put the annual economic impact of the plant at $27 billion. In a small state, these are absolutely game-changing numbers.
For all these reasons, BMW's investment has been hailed as a turning point in the state's economic history. Earlier this year, for example, Gov. Henry McMaster said this: "BMW's arrival in South Carolina over 30 years ago transformed our economy and global reputation." He's right. The investment was instrumental in helping the state transition from a textile-dependent economy for most of the 20th century to one with a vibrant advanced manufacturing industry today.
In light of all this, how in the world does Navarro conclude that BMW's investment "doesn't work for America"? I mean, even trade restrictionists have long praised this kind of inbound foreign direct investment in U.S. auto manufacturing. Not Navarro. He's setting a new bar: whatever benefits BMW has delivered are more than canceled out by the fact that it sources parts from a global supply chain. And this is the vision behind the new tariff agenda.

This electorate was *more* white than 2024.
2024 - 71% of voters were white
2026 - 73% of voters were white
So much for the "millions of mass immigrants suddenly voted without anyone seeing them" theory

I spent two years working with Stephen Miller.
His appointment as White House chief of staff is among the most dangerous personnel decisions in the history of our republic.
I say that without reservation.

I was talking w/ someone about what the MD GOP needs to do next & said Larry Hogan showed how to win statewide & then the party went in the opposite direction. They pushed back by saying that Hogan didn't have coattails. Ok, but at the moment, the MD GOP doesn't even have a coat.

Once again a member of the party that suffered a devastating rejection on Tuesday has diagnosed the ailment: an industrious, hard-working reporter who breaks stories because other Members of Congress talk to him.
Problem solved. Good work, everybody!
The slimiest member of the DC press corps who conspires with low integrity attention seekers to leak strategies being discussed in House Republican meetings is Jake Sherman. To be clear- If you want my vote for leadership you will commit to no on or off record interviews with Jake Sherman for as long as he leaks our confidential team meetings. If being in “punchbowl” is more important than keeping the confidentiality of your colleagues not only are you unfit for Leadership, you shouldn’t call yourself a patriot.
Do not call me and ask for my vote unless you are willing to make that commitment.
Our Republican Conference was crushed on Tuesday and we enter one of the most perilous times in our nations history. I can only speak for myself, but I will not be tolerating games and BS. 🇺🇸

For months, White House chief of staff Susan Wiles raised concerns about Pete Hegseth's management of the Pentagon, personal disputes, and habit of self-promotion, according to numerous people familiar with the matter.
With her gone, Hegseth quickly posts this meme of him and Miller:

Quite a few of you thought this asshole was one of the decent ones.
Congratulations to the new Chief of Staff, @StephenM.
Double down on the agenda. Too many people are demanding a change to tough policies because they were unpopular in the midterms. That’s foolish and cowardly.
The short term unpopularity of a policy does not make the policy wrong. The President’s priority should be long term benefits (like an Iran without a nuke), not short term popularity.

My first interaction with Megan Bashem was when she divebombed onto one of my threads about libertarian economic critiques of postliberalism.
She intentionally and maliciously mischaracterized my position as a defense of "weed and porn," issues I had not said a word about, and then incited a sewer of her anonymous bots and sockpuppets on me to flood the replies with pure bigotry.
When I pointed out that she had attributed stances to me that I never took, Megan spent the entire next week doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down on her original lie...and obsessively repeating it in my mentions, all layered over with moralizing harangues that added to the original lie.
She is a deeply sinful and disturbed person. And while I pray that one day she realizes the errors of her ways, the best thing you can do for her right now is to block her from your feed.
Look, there is no right time to post this series I'm about to post. Before the midterms was definitely not the right time, and immediately after isn't either, but it's less wrong. So, without further ado, here we go…
𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺 (@megbasham) 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.
Does anyone need the backstory?
On October 7, the Fantastic Four delivered some highly problematic speeches at NatCon Jerusalem, for which they were rightly criticized. One of the speakers was Amanda Milius (@AmandaMilius), who is friends with Megan. Over the following weeks, Megan went on an X crusade to defend, among other things, her friend's speech. In doing so, she repeatedly demanded that others adhere to moral standards that she herself failed to uphold in the slightest.
𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘 𝟭: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗢𝗽" 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲…
Megan repeatedly criticized people for seeing an "op" behind every disagreement, arguing that accusing others of being part of an op simply because they hold different opinions is paranoid and conspiratorial. Yet she herself suggested that people creating divisions within the right-wing coalition ahead of the midterms were part of an "op."
𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻:
"I think the people who are suddenly very interested in creating massive fights within the rightwing coalition right before the midterms are the people you should suspect of being an 'op.'" [1]
𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻:
“I am so sick of people who don’t know how to debate any policy or election result without calling things an “op.“ It’s the last refuge of idiots and grifters.” [2]
“Yes, I’m sure Mollie and Matt and me and everyone else who is saying that he is behaving out of his mind with this stuff are ops of some fashion.” [3]
“They’re not running a dialectical hegemonic op or whatever.” [4]
“And they call anyone who doesn’t agree with them part of an op.” [5]
“Everything ends up in an 8000 word insane rant about ops and dialectics and not just a normal discussion.” [6]
“Just because people disagree does not mean its an ‘op’.” [7]
“The problem is you. Not secret ops.” [8]
“I have to have been bought. I have to be part of an op.” [9]
“Exactly.” (Reply to: “…denouncing everyone who disagrees with them as secret Marxists or ‘woke right’ ops.”) [10]
